Neymar ends up looking behind him when he gets to his locker.
He checks behind him at lunch, too.
In fact, he scans the entire cafeteria and gives a lot of people the wrong idea when his eyes land on them. It's all in vain though, no matter where he looks, she's not there.
The bird girl is a mystery to him, after all, she doesn't know him. Neymar
Knows it sounds narcissistic, but he hasn't had anyone look at him in questioning for such a long time. He hasn't had to introduce himself for even longer."What are you looking for?" Kylian asks him, and Neymar knew the question might've come eventually, just not from his Parisian friend.
"What do you mean?".
"Don't act, trust me you're awful at it, just tell me what's up. You're walking around like a tourist, are you looking for something?".
Damn, Neymar thinks. Sometimes he forgets how perceptive Kylian can be.
"Not really" Neymar shrugs off. "I realized Sergio was absent. I swore on my life I'd give him his...you-know-what back today".
Kylian raises an eyebrow. "You borrowed his porn magazines?".
Neymar stares at him blankly. "Yes?".
With a scrunch of his nose, the french man turns his head disapprovingly to the side. "You disgusting chien, I can't believe you".
Neymar laughs. "Hey, you asked".
The next days end up being fairly similar. Y/n arrives first and Neymar comes in a few minutes later. He'll tell her good morning but won't bother to say goodbye. He might stare for a bit but generally they don't try to look at each other. They do really act like the other doesn't exist, and it's both okay and uncomfortable for both of them.
Now on a friday, where the sun is actually starting to feel warm and the birds are more lively. Y/n walks to the Haunted Forest and sees that Neymar is already there.
He's not sitting down though, he's standing by the pond, skipping stones with his...feet?
Y/n doesn't need to announce her presence, Neymar turns to her and says his usual good morning. Over the days, she's learned to nod back to him.
While she makes a move to sit down, he unexpectedly keeps talking. "Come here for a sec!" He beckons her over.
Not really in any position to decline, she makes her way to him.
"Watch this" he picks up a stone with his foot, and in a flash, manages to throw it in a way that skips over the water four times.
It's actually impressive, and though y/n struggles to say something, she looks at him and nods.
"Can you skip stones?".
Y/n glances at the stones and then at the pond. "Not with my feet, no".
He chuckles a bit. "And with your hands?".
Y/n feels a bit embarrassed for some reason. "Ah, no, not with my hands either".
Neymar crouches, his hands thread through the ground below before picking up a stone. Its surface was smooth and it was about the size of an acorn.
"Wanna learn?".
Again, there was no real way for her to decline. She looks up and nods once more.
Neymar grins. "Great, trust me, you're learning from the very best!".
"Yeah, I'm sure". She didn't mean to sound as sarcastic as it did, but Neymar shrugs it off completely.
He comes a bit closer and reaches his hand out, the stone balanced perfectly in his palm. "Can I? He asks, something about it a bit gentlemanly.
Y/n's confused and just stares at his hand blankly.
"Your hand" he clarifies. "Do you mind if I touch it?".
Oh, y/n thinks, surprised. He's asking her for her permission. She can't remember someone ever asking that of her before. Did he...realize her discomfort with physical touch? How?
Realizing that she fell silent, y/n pushes her hand out. "I-" she's unsure how to form her words, but he doesn't press her for anything and simply places the stone in her hands.
"You have to grab it like this" he closes her fingers around the stone and grabs the underside of her wrist. "Then you flick it like this" he moves her wrist for her. "Make sure it hits flat on the surface" he adds.
He backs off completely, crouching down again to search for another stone. Once he finds one that's ample enough, he holds it, rotates his arm and flicks it.
One, two, three, four, five. It sinks.
"That was a pretty bad throw" he chuckles to himself. Y/n almost gapes, if that was a bad throw then anything she's about to do will be worse than awful.
"Don't worry" he gives her an encouraging nod. "I used to suck too, it takes practice".
Y/n still feels an odd amount of pressure. She's not the type to like failure, and she often shies away from things she doesn't get right the first time. It's a bad personality trait, she knows that, but it's one she can't quite get rid of.
Despite this, she lifts her hand up and tries to remember how he threw it.
He held it up at a certain height, pulled his arm back just a tiny bit and by the time he threw it, his wrist had rotated a few degrees. Y/n throws, and the stone immediately sinks. Failure.
"Woah!" His eyes shine as they look back at her. "That was such a good first throw! You were so close!".
Y/n is startled by his sudden loudness, but even more so by his praise. She doesn't think she did particularly well, but with the way Neymar's beaming at her, you'd think she broke a record.
He goes back down, finds another smooth stone and hands it to her. "Try again!" He spurs her on.
Again, without much room to decline or rather-without the want to, y/n picks up the stone in his hand.
