First Dates:

95 31 9

I've always thought I underdelivered that day.

I didn't know much in the way of dates back then,

And frankly still, I know only a fraction more today,

But I loved our first.

Do you remember the drive,

After you jumped in my car,

And the rain defeated any chance of conversation?

We still managed to sing along to songs on the stereo.

I'm glad you never asked,

"Where are we going?"

Not because I didn't want you to know,

But because I still didn't know myself.

Although, I might've deep inside,

Known there was only one place to be,

During a storm,

And that's at its heart.

And so we ended up,

With our bodies braving the sea,

And our souls drenched with tears,

From above,

And wind whispering nature's secret in our ears.

I was scared,

And it seemed like you were at least a little too,

When the currents picked you off your feet,

And pulled me off mine,

And made us collide.

In the end,

We survived,

And I think we both received,

Just a little more motivation to be alive.
