Akaia sat awake in her family's marui, the girl hadn't slept all night.

She sat watching the dark sky as the sounds of her family's breathing and snores soothe her.

The girl was scared, scared of closing her eyes and seeing the faces of the avatars she killed in order to save her family.

They haunted her dreams, every night since the attack. So Akaia's solution was not to sleep. At all, no matter how exhausted she was.

Akaia yawned before standing from her mat. She looked back towards her family making sure they were all still asleep before leaving the marui.

The girl walked along the beach and towards where their Ikrans are kept.

As she walked a pair of ocean eyes followed her movements.

Mak'korro watched as the girl staunched along the beach with a confused frown on his face.
Why was she awake so early again?

The boy sighed before jumping off the dock and jogging after her.

Akaia heard movement behind her as she approached the Ikrans. The girl reached towards her grandfathers knife before turning and pouncing on her attacker, straddling them and putting her knife firmly at their throat.

The girls eyes widened as she quickly realised who she was on top of. As she pulled away her knife.

"Mak'korro? What the hell are you doing here." She questioned at the boy beneath her.

The boy laughed, "I saw you staunching along the beach, I just wanted to make sure u were okay." His laugh shaking her body.

"I don't staunch." The girl mumbled shaking her head.

He laughed once again, "Yes you most certainly do." He replied back to the girl.

Akaia scoffed before getting up off the boy rubbing the sand off her shins before extending a hand towards towards him. Mak'korro looked at her hand before grabbing it, Akaia helped pull the boy up to his feet.

Mak'korro sighed as he began rubbing the sand off his back. "What are you doing out here anyway." He questioned looking towards the girl.

"I just wanted to see my Ikran." She replied, before helping him brush the sand off his muscular back.

"This early?" His asked as he turned to face her with concern eyes that drifted down towards her discoloured neck.

Akaia stopped brushing his back as she looked into his eyes. She watched as his attention left her neck and met her eyes.

She suddenly felt anxious about the fading bruises on her neck. "I have trouble sleeping." Akaia admitted reluctantly.

Mak'korro nodded, "Nightmares?" He questioned.

"Something like that." She said before turning away from him and walking towards the makeshift Ikran nest that had been set up.

Akaia could hear the boy's footsteps behind her as they approached a set of bushes that separated the nest from the beach.

"Why are you following." She asked as she continued walking.

"Am I not allowed to?" He said making her stop in her steps and turn towards him.

Their eyes met once again making goosebumps appear on Akaia's arms.

"I mean you are more then welcome but I don't think it will be that interesting for a water boy like you."

Mak'korro scoffed, "A water boy?" The boy said with a smirk.

Akaia let out a laugh, "Yes, water boy. Or do you prefer fish boy?"

You'll also like

"I prefer Mak'korro." He said with a smile.

"Hmmm, fish boy it is then." She said as she turned back towards the bushes with a blush on her face.

He laughed as he followed her through the bushes to the nest. His eyes widened as he saw the Ikran's, they all seemed asleep except for one.

Akaia's Ikran.

The boy thought the creature was beautiful, terrifying but beautiful. He couldn't stop the look of amazement that took over his face as they stood before the purple and black Ikran. Akaia run towards her soul brother. The creature purred loudly as it rubbed its head against her chest.

Mak'korro would never admit it but something within him felt jealous of this creature. He watched as the beast completely blocked Akaia from his sight.

The boy couldn't help the glare that came over his face as the Ikran looked towards him with smug look.

Akaia emerged from behind the Ikran with a large smile on her face, his glare almost instantly disappeared as he saw how happy she was.

"Mak'korro meet Sar'zoo, Sar'zoo meet Mak'korro." She introduced pointing between the two. Sar'zoo huffed before tucking his head back towards her chest, the girl rolled her eyes at the creature before mouthing a sorry to Mak'korro.

He smiled at the girl softly. He couldn't stop thinking about how beautiful she was, it had been on his mind for the last couple days. Before she had arrived all he focused on was his training and his future as Olo'eyktan but now everything had switched she was his main thought, his main priority.

Akaia looked towards Mak'korro with a curious expression.

"How brave are you fish boy?" She inquired with a smirk on her face.

He tilted his he towards her with a confused expression, "What?"

Akaia adjusted the straps on her Ikrans saddle before mounting the creature. Akaia looked towards Mak'korro who still had a confused expression.

"Come." She said as she extended her hand towards him.

The boys eyes widened as he looked back towards Sar'zoo who was now death staring him. "Um, I dont know Akaia."

"Come on, I wouldn't of asked you if I didn't think you would like it. Trust me." She said, as her hand stroked Sar'zoo's skin gently.

The boy sighed before grabbing her hand and climbing on top of the Ikran. The boy sat closely behind Akaia with his hands resting on top of his lap, not knowing where to put them.

Akaia looked back towards the boy, before grabbing his hands and wrapping them around her toned waist.

Mak'korro swallowed thickly, trying not to think about where his hands are currently positioned.

"Hold on tightly. Do not let go, okay?"

"Yes Ma'am." Mak'korro said as Akaia nodded before turning back to the front and connecting her queue.

Mak'korro felt both Sar'zoo and Akaia shiver as the bond was made.

Akaia reached up and pulled down the visor that was resting on her hairline down to her brow bone. She then placed one of her hands on top of Mak'korro's securing his hands before placing the other on the handle on Sar'zoos neck.

"Are you ready?" She questioned squeezing the boys hands.

"As ready as I'll ever be." He replies as Akaia nodded, giving the order for Sar'zoo to take off. The Ikran screeched with excitement before flapping its wings and lifting off the ground.

Mak'korro tightened his grip on the girl as they flew away from the ground. The boy tucked his head into her neck in fear.

The girl laughed as she directed Sar'zoo over the Metkayina village. She nudged Mak'korro slightly trying to get the boys attention at the sight.

"Mak'korro look, trust me you won't regret it." She said giggling at the boy, even Sar'zoo let out a laugh like sound.

The boy looked up from the girl's neck and looked towards his village. Mak'korro was shocked, he could see everything. The boy loosened his grip on Akaia as he watched his home from above. The girl turned to look at his face watching the excitement in his ocean blue eyes.

"Its beautiful isn't it?" She said her eyes flickering back towards the village. Mak'korro turned and looked at the girl with longing eyes.

"The most beautiful thing i've ever seen."
