Chapter 62: Buried Bones

"Really Leiodus," Aiden stood with a hand on his hip, the other in a sling. "Your guard is unnecessary, I am more than willing to guard Prince Sega while he recovers. The guards already posted in the entire hall belong to the Field. I have no suspicion of the Field so my guards are spread along the outside and near the entrances to the Meeting Hall." Gold eyes looked at Aesmond, "there is no need for you to be without your personal guard. Aesmond would be better at your side. You and Vyjas are the only two who were not attacked, keeping your best near you seems more logical."

"I'm confident enough to spare Aesmond, he's close to Sega, Sega will enjoy knowing he's safe under Aesmond's surveillance."

Aiden narrowed his eyes, Leiodus didn't trust him and wanted to leave a mole. Tahalla appeared as if summoned. "I will stay and guard as well, as Naki is my only charge and he is here with Sega to save on splitting our resources, I will gladly keep Aesmond company."

Leiodus gave a roll of his eyes, the woman would stand there and chatter insistently and Aesmond would be no use listening. If she knew the right topic, Aesmond could be distracted. "If Tahalla and guards from my own pack are present, then I suppose I could use Aesmond for other means. Aiden since you are most cognitive, I assume you will work hard to get answers when those two rise? I need to try and find clues about my mate and her disappearance."

Aiden nodded, his expression solemn even if everything he said and did now were a part of the charade. "Yes, I have all my resources searching for any signs of the Meadow leaders." Aiden let his expression relax, "though there is not much hope left after the carnage I saw. It is quite gracious of the Field to keep Lady Marielle and Lord Liggrim safe until we can properly convene and discuss our options going forward."

"Yes naturally everyone knows of the Queen's favor, well, knew of her favor for Marielle and of course her sister. Naturally Liggrim and Marielle would be considered honorary Alphas until things are settled. They will be protected. You even provided them with personal guards. It seems all is as well as it can be. I'll leave you to rest for now, when Sega regains some strength, please alert me."

Aiden watched as the man finally departed, his eyes rolling up to the God's. "I thought he would never fucking leave! He doesn't plan on making this easy does he?"

Tahalla smiled from the wall, "does he seem like a man that slacks when he starts a plan? He will try to place a spy everywhere now. Whatever his scheme is, he's about to try to push harder than ever."

Aiden slumped on the sofa that was in Sega's room. He and Naki were both out, Sega from pain medicine dripping into him from an IV. Naki was a drained battery, void of power until he got recharged. "My entire body hurts, I want to be on whatever Sega is on but somebody has to keep one eye open."

"Let me heal you, there is no reason to go around in pain. We need you in your best form."

Aiden shook his head, "you helped enough." He plucked at a little pendant on his neck. "I really do feel soothed by this. I don't mind waiting to heal yet, it'll work in my favor."

"How so," Tahalla asked, vastly amused as she leaned in the doorway.

"Because Naki will fret over me. He'll see I was attacked and had to fend for myself in the cold. He'll want to coddle me so I feel better."

Tahalla gave a bark of laughter, her muscular and statuesque frame shaking with amusement. "You are such a large man but so full of fluff. My little ward truly does have the two of you absolutely puddles in his hands." Her eyes crinkled, "I think one day when you all meet his father, you will earn his seal of approval."
