{ Contexto: This is a continuation of the last few chapters, only from Mildred's point of view. }

She was tired...
Mildred felt the exhaustion of trying to put Gwendolyn out of her mind. When the governor's assistant invited the young nurse to accompany her to the seafood restaurant, Mildred was reluctant at first not knowing what the older blonde's intentions were, but Mildred accepted nonetheless. She resolved to push her suspicions under the rug and focus on trying to see Gwendolyn's invitation in a friendly light.
Their time together at the restaurant was wonderful; Gwendolyn opened the nurse's mind to new things, introduced her to food and drink that Mildred would never dream of eating. It really was magnificent, until Gwendolyn suggested they both go somewhere else for cocktails.
When they arrived at the bar Gwendolyn had suggested, Mildred had to admit that it was very pretty and mostly that it brought a sense of comfort, but when they both entered it was clear as day what Gwendolyn's intentions were.
And that scared Mildred.
So the young nurse did the only thing she knew how to do, she ran away.
Mildred will never forget the look of pain in those beautiful blue eyes when she said things she shouldn't have said in the heat of the moment, the hurt and sadness in Gwendolyn's eyes made the nurse want to slap herself for being the cause of those feelings. But even so, Mildred ran away, returned to the motel where she was staying, and hasn't spoken to Gwendolyn since.
The next few days passed quickly, but that didn't really matter to Mildred as the only thing on her mind was the governor's assistant. In an unsuccessful attempt to get Gwendolyn out of her thoughts, the nurse had sex with a man occupying a room beside her.
This ended up having the opposite effect and bringing back the thoughts of the beautiful blonde that had haunted the nurse for the past few days. As soon as Mildred closed her eyes, there was Gwendolyn kissing her sweetly, the elder's hand sliding from Mildred's cheek to her collarbone gently as if the slightest pressure of her touch would break the nurse and maybe it could?
Mildred felt strange feelings with these thoughts about Gwendolyn in an intimate moment, this was completely different from anything she felt.

It was another normal day for Mildred, waking up before sunrise, doing her morning routine and preparing for her shift at the hospital.
Once the young nurse was ready, she headed toward the motel's front door that led to where her car was parked. The closer Mildred got the closer she could hear you muffled talking. This didn't bother the nurse at all since they always had new lodgings since she arrived in Lucia.
As Mildred passed the front desk she heard a soft hi. Looking at the author of the voice, the nurse realized that it was the only person she had been avoiding the last few days, Gwendolyn.
"What are you doing here?" asked Mildred sharply.
"Oh, sorry I didn't know you were staying here. This is the only available place in town," said Gwendolyn, still recovering from the shock of seeing the nurse.
Mildred looked confused at the governor's assistant, not understanding why she was reserving a room. Gwendolyn noticed the nurse's confusion and said "I left my husband this morning" she said trying to clarify things.
Mildred was obviously taken aback by Gwendolyn's words. Mildred felt a definitely strange feeling knowing this information and---
Mildred is unfortunately out of her mind due to the motel's receptionist, Louise.
"Can you give her the keys, please," Mildred said quietly to the receptionist.
Once checked in, Mildred escorted Gwendolyn to her room to help her settle in. When they arrived Mildred noticed that the governor's assistant's room was opposite hers. Gwendolyn was the first to enter, going to sit comfortably on the edge of the bed, Mildred entered, closing the door and going straight to the dresser to arrange Gwendolyn's clothes.
Mildred didn't know where this empathy for the blonde sitting on the bed a few meters from her came from, Mildred just felt the duty to help Gwendolyn not only to apologize for the way she treated her but also because the nurse wanted to know the real reason why the blonde eldest left her husband.
Looking at Gwendolyn, the nurse could see how lost in thought she seemed. Mildred dropped what she was doing and walked towards the blonde sitting comfortably beside her.
"He didn't hit you, did he?" Mildred knew that the question was a risky one, but she didn't have much to think about, the nurse had already seen cases of married women leaving their husbands because of the violence they suffered.
Gwendolyn was taken aback by Mildred's question, she felt hopeful again that she could see the smallest of the nurse's concerns directed at her.
"No, he's a wonderful man," said Gwendolyn.
Mildred spent a few seconds contemplating the older blonde's words, before the nurse's thoughts could deepen further, Gwendolyn spoke again "But I couldn't live another lie."
"I knew it was time to open myself up to something different" said Gwendolyn and then continued "Experience...true love" The young nurse listened carefully to Gwendolyn's words, still not fully understanding.
As soon as Mildred would question this impulsive choice of the blonde, she felt her hand on hers, it seemed that everything had stopped and the only thing she could feel was Gwendolyn's warm hand over her cold one.
For a moment Mildred forgot everything, her purpose, her brother...but then it all came back and the nurse quickly walked away from Gwendolyn towards the door.
"I'm going to be late for work" and those were the nurse's last words to Gwendolyn before leaving the room and heading towards her car.
Once Mildred was safely in her car behind closed doors she sighed heavily, Gwendolyn did this to her. It was as if all the oxygen had been sucked out of her lungs, Mildred felt afraid that she had such feelings for the older woman and once again tried to ignore the signs.
But little did she know that this story was far from over.
