CHAPTER SIX:
THE DEATH OF A FRIEND
THE EVENING WAS COMING. The sun had slowly begun to set about an hour or so ago for the many scientists working in the building, giving them the signal that they could head home and back to their families for the night before heading to work the next morning. A whole day had gone by since the group of younger mutants had gotten to know one another and their abilities better when the little get together had turned into them dancing to the music they had played, some having flaunted their abilities. In the same room they had been in the night before, those same mutants could be seen sitting around. The window had been fixed overnight, blocking the outside from the group. In the corner of the room, Alex had his attention stuck on an arcade machine as he listened to Darwin beside him, the older man having been watching him the entire time as he made comments about how big his score on the arcade machine game was getting, only making Alex more cocky. The others were sitting on the sofas when two men in suits began to walk by, stopping at the sight of them.
"Oh, I didn't know the circus was in town. Hey, come on, honey. Give us a little..." One of the men begin as he looks at Angel, using his hands to gesture to wings and when she just stares at him, he looks at Hank. "No? Come on, let's see the foot."
When Hank had stood up to his feet, the man seemed to grow excited as if thinking that Hank would actually show his prehensile feet, calling him the same words Alex had mentioned the night before. Big foot. However, Hank had pressed a button on the wall while giving the man a slight wave before the curtains from the outside of the window completely covered the two men from seeing them.
"They're just guys being stupid." Raven speaks up when she notices Angel's expression.
"Guys being stupid, I can handle. Okay? I've handled that my whole life." Angel admits. "But I'd rather a bunch of guys stare at me with my clothes off than the way these ones stare at me."
"At us." Y/n corrects, eyes on her lap.
Hank found himself looking at her with a frown just when a distant rumble echoed throughout the air. This caught everyone's attention as they looked around in confusion, Darwin having been the first person to speak up as he wondered what they were all wondering.
What was that sound? The man had looked uneasy now as he and Alex joined the others, who stood up to their feet just when another rumble echoed. They watched as Darwin pressed the same button Hank had pressed earlier, all of them looking out the window curiously.
Their eyes all caught sight of something in the sky and as Y/n looked closer, she realized that one of them happened to be the same man who had brought them to this facility in the first place. The person holding him let go, the groups now wide eyes watching as the man fell from the sky until his now lifeless body landed right in front of the window.
