I woke up this morning only feeling slightly nauseous, so I decided to go downstairs and make myself some toast.

I trotted down the staircase and took a couple turns before reaching the kitchen.

However, before I could even get the bread out, I heard a pained groan from the living room.

My eyebrows furrowed in confusion and a tinge of fear.

I slowly made my way towards the living room, and cautiously peaked my head around the doorway.

I gasped at the sight of a shirtless Nik who was clawing at an open wound on his back, blood poured from the gaping hole endlessly.

"Nik? What happened?!" I questions worriedly.

"Go away!" Nik shouts, seemingly angered by me

"Nik, baby, what's wrong?" I ask again, my voice wavering.

I move toward him to rest my hand on his shoulder but he recoils and scoots back.

"Stop pretending to be her! I need more time. Stop hounding me!" Nik screams.

"What? Nik it's me. I promise." I try to explain.

"Leave me alone, Silas!" Nik shouts.

"I'm not Silas, Niky! Would Silas be wearing your clothes. Would Silas know that you cut the tags out of all of your shirts because you don't like how scratchy they are? It's me Nik, not him." I say.

Nik gaze softens but he still keeps his distance.

"If it's the real Ivy, then what was the first thing I ever said to you?" Nik quizzes.

"In your body or Alaric's?" I clarify.

"Mine."

"Easy, you said "hello would you mind if I sat here?" And then you bought me ice cream." I smile at the memory.

"Ivy?" Nik's voice cracks as his eyes water.

"Aww, Niky." I breath, rushing to sit next to him.

I pull him to me and cradle him as he sobs in pain from the wound, and relief from the fact it was really me.

———

I had spent the last hour and a half trying to find the small piece of white oak stake that Silas had apparently broke off and left in Nik's body.

I had also thrown up about 4 times.

Turns out blood and nausea don't mix well. Who would've thought?

I look worriedly at Nik as I hear the front door creak open.

"Ivy? Are you home?" Caroline's voice echos through the house.

I go to answer but Nik puts his hand over my mouth.

"It might be Silas." He whispers

My eyes widen at the thought of that monster coming back here.

Nik told me that Silas had pretended to be me and told  him all of this horrible stuff about how I didn't love him anymore and I how I was leaving.

What a bitch move honestly.

"Oh there you are. I just wanted to return that sweater you lent me the other day." Caroline says as she walks into the room.

"Are you the real Caroline?" I ask.

"Huh?" She tilts her head in confusion.

"Give it up Silas, your tricks won't work anymore." Nik says.

"Woah, what happened to you?" Caroline looks at Nik's bloody open wound in shock.

"Silas." I answer.

"And I'm not him by the way. It's really me, Caroline."

"Prove it." Nik demands.

"How?" She asks.

"Tell me what Elena did while we were playing spin the bottle at your 12th birthday." I offer her a way to prove herself.

"I don't want to." Caroline sighs.

"Come on, just say it." I chuckle.

"She said you were named Ivy after poison Ivy, and that if anyone kissed you they'd instantly die." Caroline begrudgingly answers.

"Ding ding ding! It's her!" I grin.

"Worst birthday ever." Caroline grumbles.

"Yeah not my favorite either." I giggle.

"Now that we know it's you. I need your help." Nik says.

"What can I do?" Caroline questions.

"Ivy is getting sick, she can't dig around for the piece of white oak stake that Silas left in my back. I need you to do it." Nik answers.

———

Caroline had been unsuccessfully digging around in Nik's back with pliers for thirty minutes and still yielded no results.

"Ugh, I swear there's nothing in here. Two more minutes and I'm done." Caroline complains.

"You killed twelve witches for your friend Bonnie. You can't even get your hands a little dirty for me? Here I thought we were becoming friends." Nik recalls yesterday's events.

"Well, you thought wrong." Caroline shrugs as she digs a little deeper into Nik's back.

He yells in pain and starts slamming his hand on the piano top he was leaning against.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry. I'm sorry. You know what I'm not sorry. You deserve to suffer for everything that you've done. So today, we're gonna do things my way. You want my help? You let Tyler come back to town, and give me your word that you will not hurt him." Caroline demands.

"Caroline you can't be serious!" I scold.

"If he wants it out, he can do it himself." Caroline shrugs.

"I can feel the splinters moving towards my heart. Help me!" Nik shouts.

"Your word first." Caroline demands.

"I will not have my hand forced by you or anyone else!" Nik yells.

"Fine." Caroline says, storming out of the house.

After she left Nik's eyes began to water.

"It hurts." He whispered softly as he looked at me.

I immediately rushed in front of him putting my hands on his face.

"Hey, it's okay. I'm gonna get it out." I try to calm him.

"But you'll get sick." Nik sniffles.

"I'll be fine. We'll both be fine okay? Just breath." I instruct.

He takes a deep breath in.

"We're okay. I love you." I say gently, placing a soft kiss on his forehead.

"It's gone."

"What is?" I ask, confused.

"The pain. The-the pain is gone. It was-it was never there. He got in my head. Silas...got inside my head. You took my mind off it. You brought me back, my angel."

I smile widely, attacking him in a tight hug.

But I couldn't help thinking, If Silas can make Nik, of all people, believe that he's dying...what can he do to the rest of us?
