A/N pov,

It was past 8 p.m.; everyone left the office by 5 p.m. Sarah was so busy with the work that her grumpy boss gave it to her; it was more like torture.

While she was busy working, she heard a loud thud outside the office. Ricardo had already left the office an hour ago. The door automatically opened, and it was none other than Garner. He was carrying loads of files in his hands that he could not handle at all. Clumsily, he took his steps forward while struggling with the weight of the files.

Sarah immediately stood up and helped him. When Garrett saw her, his eyes widened with confusion.

"What are you doing this late?" he asked, still huffing with exhaustion.

"Ricardo gave me loads of files to summarise." I could only finish 10 of them for now; he wants all files to be summarised by the next morning," she said while looking at her desk.

"no way a single person could finish them in one day!" What the hell is he even doing?"

"I'll handle it and should go back," he said.

"Wouldn't it be suspicious if I returned home early?"

"It's Monday; he won't be home early; he'll be in the bar with his friends. "You should go back; I'll book a cab for you."

"th-thanks"

"Gurl, that's not even a favor; that's basic human decency." She smiled and collected her belongings, ready to go.

As she stepped out of the bar, she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. She had been dreading going home all day, and the thought of spending even one more minute in her husband's company was unbearable. As she waited for the cab to arrive, she wondered what her life would be like if she had never married him. She could have pursued her dreams of becoming a painter and maybe even found someone who truly loved and respected her. But now she was stuck in a loveless marriage with a man who only cared about himself. The cab finally pulled up, and she got in, giving the driver her address. As they drove through the city streets, she watched the lights blur by and thought about all the missed opportunities in her life.

As they drove past her friend's cafe, she told the driver to drop her off nearby. She saw Shelly swipe the floor. The smell of freshly brewed coffee flowed through the air. She paid the driver and proceeded to ask the cafe driver to drop her off nearby. She saw Shelly swipe the floor. The bell chimed as she opened the door, and she was greeted by the warm smile of her friend.

"Oh my god, finally you came back!"

"I'm so sorry; I was busy with work."

She placed the broom in the corner and washed her hands. As they settled down with their coffee, her friend eagerly shared the latest gossip. She listened intently, nodding and laughing at all the right moments. But her mind kept wandering back to work. She had a deadline to meet and a pile of unfinished tasks waiting for her at the office. She tried to push the thoughts away, reminding herself that she deserved this break.

"He is in the bar, drinking with his friends; he wouldn't know if I returned late," she said, sipping coffee and giving a gentle smile.

"Or just never go back; he wouldn't know." Shelly placed her cup down and held her hands,

"I'll handle everything, except he doesn't know. Run away, Sarah; you know he will ruin your life." Sarah looked at Shelly with a mix of fear and uncertainty. She had always known that leaving her abusive partner would be difficult, but hearing those words from her friend made it all the more real. She took a deep breath and tried to steady herself.

"He is wearing my dad's ring, Shelly; nothing is more precious than that ring, even if it cost my own life!" Her tears were rolling down her cheeks as she spoke. Shelly put a comforting hand on her friend's shoulder. She burst down crying. Shelly held her close.

"I DO NOT CARE WHETHER MY DAD WAS A MURDERER OR WHAT!" THAT'S ALL THE MEMORY I HAVE!!!" Shelly didn't say anything; she held her tight in her arms.

After a while, Shelly cupped her cheeks.

"Why don't you make him fall in love with you? then gain his trust and run away! She said it excitedly. Sarah was dissatisfied with her idea.

"very practical of you, but that's not possible," she said, shrugging her arms.

"I'm not kidding!!! Look at you! "Any guy would fall in love with you" , exclaimed her friend. Sarah rolled her eyes, knowing that physical appearance wasn't the only factor in love.

"It takes more than just looks to make someone fall in love with you," she replied.

"And..." she continued. "He already has a girlfriend that he wanted to marry, but now he is stuck with me"

She was looking outside; the city view at night looks so aesthetic that she could not take her eyes off it. She looked back at Shelly; her eyes were closed. Sarah smacked the back of her head. She woke up in shock while still drooling from her mouth.

"How can you even sleep?" when I'm in trouble? she yelled.

"Gurl! "It's past 12," she said in a tired voice. Sarah was fuming. How could Shelly sleep through her distress? She couldn't believe it. She smacked the back of Shelly's head, hoping to jolt her awake. Finally, Shelly stirred, but not without drooling from her mouth. Sarah couldn't help but roll her eyes at the sight.

"Let's get out of here."

Sarah's pov,

Shelly drove me to my new address. It was raining heavily outside when I arrived. The guards were still on duty. They took my bag and escorted me to my room—well, I wouldn't say that; it was his room. I paused before entering his room. Since it's raining heavily, I hope he doesn't kick me out on the balcony again. As I stepped in, I saw him sitting on the couch with his legs crossed and his arms crossed. It looks like he's been waiting for me for a long time. I nervously approached him, trying to avoid eye contact.

"Where were you this late?" He said it, breaking the silence. I could sense his anger just by looking at him. I could sense the dark aura he possessed. I stuttered as I tried to come up with an excuse, but nothing seemed good enough. His piercing gaze made me feel small and insignificant. I knew that I had let him down, and the guilt was eating away at me. As he continued to stare at me, I could feel my heart racing faster and faster.

"I was completing the work you gave me," I said.

He stood up and stepped forward towards me. I didn't step back as much as I used to. One thing that was on my mind was not letting him sense my fear. I do not fear him

"I came back, and you were not there since 8." He came so close that I could feel my breath and the strong smell of alcohol, but I didn't show him any sign of fear. I looked right into his eyes. My goodness, every time I look into his eyes, I get mesmerised, no matter how much I hate him.

Since he is drunk, it is the perfect time for me to get out before he does anything.

I pulled away, and I was about to click the doorknob. He towered over me. while his one hand was above my head on the door, preventing it from opening.

"What I said before?" huh? "You dared to leave me unanswered?"
