(The smell of earth after rain.)

It was physically impossible for me to stop smiling while watching Vigilia talk to all my business associates. She wore a kind smile and listened to everything they said, giving me glances once in a while and I would nod giving my reassurance. This was the sexiest I had ever seen her. She was so calm and seemed mature, she was very sensible and responded to questions accordingly.

Brunch had been served and we ate while the associates still ridiculed Vigilia with questions. After brunch, everyone got into their groups and discussed whether or not Vigilia was good for me while others still interrogated her. I never left her side making sure she felt as comfortable and as safe as possible.

After countless hours of conversations, the business associate party bid farewell and took their leave. I saw Vigilia take a deep breath and sit at the bottom of the stairs to rest. Soon after the door clicked shut I went into my study, Angelo and Massimo following behind me. Massimo as the last one in shut the door behind him.

My office was spacious, with a couple of pictures hanging on the walls, and a bookshelf adjacent to the door. There was a couch set a few feet from the bookshelf. Adjacent to that were two chairs in front of my document-filled desk, which had a chair behind it. The floors were carpeted with a beige carpet and the walls were of the same color. The ceiling had a chandelier and was painted white.

"You can't possibly still think she's unfit," I exclaimed to them as I took off my jacket placing it on my table.

"Marianna is better. She knows this world. Eve knows nothing." Angelo spoke, as they stood a safe distance from the desk.

"Exactly I can always teach her," I answer, my hands on my hips slowly pacing.

"She's fragile. Her mental state is fragile. We can not have her breaking down in front of the courts." Massimo interjected beside Angelo a little tremor in his voice.

"She's been handling you two fairly well and today proves she doesn't crack under pressure" I defended, now standing still watching them.

"The courts only gather once every two years, she will not be the first black Duce. I am certain that she can perform to perfection the responsibilities asked of her by the courts." I continue, scanning them as they search for a fitting response.

"She will be the first black Duce in a mixed-race couple. There is a reason we stick to our kind, before you go on about race it's not about that. I mean our kind as in gangs and mafia. Your alliance with her proves no benefit to us. She has no influential ties and is uneducated. She's a burden." Angelo spoke stepping forward.

"She's beneficial to me. She makes me feel human. We all know I can't lose my humanity, not again." I say as I turn away from both of them, walking towards my seat.

"I love you big brother and I will support whatever decision you make. I'm loyal to you and your ambitions. I just do not want you to lose your way because of a girl. Marianna grew up in the mafia. Her father controls a very powerful gang in England. Marianna herself is influential. She is feared in the streets and holds a reputation that can only add to your own. She is a great"

"If she's so wonderful then marry her Angelo!" I exclaim, grabbing the nearest vase and throwing it at the wall. The sound of the shattering vase fills the room. Silence fell among us.

"I'm sick of hearing her name come out of your mouth and I'm not sure how long I can bear it before I cut out your tongue. Yes, Marianna's father is powerful, influential, and all the shit you just said but I can not be with her. Not after I've found Eve. I can't." l. My voice softens as I speak, my heavy breathing slowing.

"If the worst comes to be worst, I will have them both," I say softly. Not even sure if Vigilia would stay with me.

"I just want to go to bed and hold Vigilia tonight, telling her how proud I am of her for handling the guests so well. I'm done with this conversation and you've both angered me so walk away before I open my eyes." I say as I close my eyes and turn away from them.

I heard footsteps, a door opening and a door shut followed by more footsteps moving further away from me. I took a deep breath to collect myself then I grabbed my jacket and headed out of the office. Stopping in the kitchen I decided to grab a drink, I needed it after that conversation with Dumb and Dumber.

I set my jacket on the counter then walked towards the cabinet and took a glass. My steps to the bar were quick, and within seconds I was back in the kitchen with a bottle of Jack Daniels. Taking a seat on the kitchen island I poured the drink and sipped.

"Are you okay?"

"Vigilia, you should be resting. I'm sure your feet hurt." I changed the topic.

"Are you okay?" She asked again as she walked closer to me coming from the fridge, a bottle of water in hand.

"I'm fine," I said with uncertainty in my voice and she smiled looking at me.

"Okay. My feet are killing me so I'm going to rest." She informed me before walking away.

"Come" I commanded and she set her water bottle on the island walking towards me.

She was wearing a fairly large t-shirt and I suspected she had no bottoms. I turned in her direction and smiled when she stopped in between my legs. She had a shy glint in her eye that I found cute.

I placed my hands on both her hips and looked into her eyes as I softly drew circles with my fingers on her hips. I heard her breathing hitch and I smirked at her body's betraying response.

"I'm proud of you." I praised her.

"Yeah, I'm proud of me too." She answered I couldn't help but chuckle.

"You should be," I said as I lifted her from the floor to the island countertop.

Taking a small peak into her shirt only to discover my suspicion was spot on. She let out a quick moan and I smirked.

"I should reward you for being such a good girl," I said placing my head between her breasts taking in her beauty.

My hands were still on her hips and I pulled her closer to me.

"What reward should I give you good girl?"
