My sister turned and ran into the portal she had created. "Wait!" I called, but it was already too late. The portal had closed.

I sighed. Then I looked to my dad, who looked at me and nodded. He started trying to trace the portal.

I looked over at the grave Selena had been sitting at. Sure enough, it said Cassia Martino.

~A short amount of time later~

"The portal's ready." Dad said.

I got up and stepped through the portal with dad.

On the other side, we stepped into...

A cage?

I looked behind me to go back, but the portal had dissipated in seconds.

"I knew you'd follow me, if you could portal." Said a voice beside me.

I jumped. I hadn't realized she was there.

Selena was sitting in an armchair right by the cage we were now stuck in. All around the room there were little gadgets and unfinished projects, probably from Selena.

"You like the cage? I built it. There's only one way out, and that's if you have the key." She said, dangling said key in her hand.

Dad tried to use his telekinesis to get it, but Selena's telekinesis was stronger.

"Nope!" She said. Then she climbed up a ladder and closed a trapdoor, and she was gone.

She didn't count on me conjuring up a key.

It was mom's power, so she probably didn't think I had it, but I did.

I conjured up a key, identical to the one she'd shown us, and unlocked the cage.

Click.

But that wasn't all there was to it.

The second I tried to open the cage, the bars turned into walls a weird yellow mist started to fill the cage.

Maybe Selena was smarter than I thought.

~20 minutes later~

~Selena's POV~

Alora was finally home. She'd stayed at the school to help clean up after the Fairy Games.

I led her down to my "lab"— the room where I worked on all my gadgets— to show her the two men who'd followed me home.

Of course, the walls has been activated. I'd thought one of them would have conjuring.

I tapped in a code and the walls retracted back into the bars, causing the most to dissipate as well.

"They've probably been out for like 20 minutes." I said, gesturing to the two unconscious men.

"You realize this isn't a normal reaction to finding your father, right?" Alora said.

I nodded. It's not like I'd ever been normal. However, I wasn't going to leave them in the cage, because the conjuring, broken wings, and name was enough proof for me.

I tapped in another code on the keypad and the door clicked open.

~Many hours later~

~Moon's POV~

I groaned and shifted my position, not thinking anything of the comfortable bed I was lying on.

Then I realized. I hadn't slept on an actual bed in three days.

I opened my eyes to see a girl sitting at a table, fast asleep.

Sitting up, I groaned and rubbed my head.

Then I felt a sharp pain my hand, which I had broken when we were running.

My left wrist was encased in a cast of some sort. It was nothing like any cast I'd ever seen before. It seemed almost rubber, but not at the same time, and it was like a grid.

(Kinda like this)

I rubbed my eye with my right hand and quietly got out of the bed, but the floorboard creaked loudly the second I put my weight on it. I cringed and took my weight off of it, but it was too late. I had already woken the girl up.

She sat up and looked around, sleepy confusion on her face until she saw me.

"Oh, you're awake..." She said tiredly. "I'm Alora, Selena's friend." She yawned.

"Come on, follow me..." She said, standing and walking to the door.

I did as she said and she led me to where Selena was talking to dad.

"Oh, Moon, you're awake!" Dad said. Selena turned to look at me.

"How long have I been out?" I asked as Alora left.

"Mm... five hours?" Selena said.
"That is, five hours more than the most should have knocked you out for, so more like seven."

"I've been asleep for seven hours and no one thought to wake me up?" I asked.

Dad sighed. "You obviously needed to sleep, Moon."

I crossed my arms with a huff. "You know I hate oversleeping."

Dad opened his mouth to say something when suddenly, the ground started to shake violently.

Everyone bolted under the table to avoid falling objects.

But then, the floor disappeared from under me and I started to fall.
