My head throbbing, and my vision blurred as I groaned in pain. Bella lay motionless, on the passenger seat beside me.
"Bella," I cried, gently shaking her
"How...what just happened?" she murmured. She reached out, taking my hand as she attempted to sit up.
Relieved that she was okay, I leaned back in my seat, resting my head against the headrest. Letting out a deep breath, I tried to make sense of what had just happened. Suddenly, a flash of memory brought me back to the moment of the crash.
The wind passed by, and the empty street was fully covered in darkness. The dim light of the half-moon barely lit up the figure that had appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the road. It stood frozen between there. Panicked, I slammed the brakes, but it was too late. The car skidded and crashed straight into a street lamp.
"Lily!! What were you thinking?" Bella shouted coughing hard as smoke from the car engine clouded her as she went out of the car to inspect the damage 'I' caused, bringing me back to the present.
I stumbled out of the car and tried to steady myself only to realise that by either ways we have arrived at our destination -
"The Baek's Bungalow" I uttered in shock. The small white house stood quietly, looking old and forgotten. Outside, a small yard with a dead cherry blossom tree and a broken swing offered a dreadful view. As Bella walked up to the door, I prepared myself for the trouble that was sure to come.
"Be careful," I warned.
"Who even cares?" Bella said, rolling her eyes. It was clear she wasn't worried about being careful at all.
She opened the door with a bang. A spider, surprised by the sudden noise, quickly moved towards her face.
"Ahhh!" she yelled, waving her arms around like crazy.
"What an idiot!" I muttered, facepalming.
"Get this thing off me!" she yelled, panic filling her voice, she dropped on the ground dramatically.
A silver-haired woman appeared out of nowhere, her hourglass figure drawing my attention. Her captivating eyes held a mysterious charm.
She crouched down to the ground with sheer innocence in her movement near Bella and calmly took the spider in her hand, her expression unreadable. I looked at her confused, not recognizing her. She seemed to understand my confusion.
"Ummm... yes! Hello, I'm Luna Lovegood. I'm your new neighbor, I just live nearby," she said, extending her hand.
"I'm Lily Granger, pleased to meet you," I replied, shaking her hand, which was surprisingly cold.
Bella, feeling an odd vibe from Luna, walked away, seemingly lost in thought.
"Would you like a cup of tea and a chat?" I offered, hoping to ease the tension.
Luna nodded. I went inside the house, finding Bella in the hallway, her arms crossed and clearly unhappiness on her face. Luna followed closely behind.
Bella turned on the lights, and the room was bright. A sudden chill ran down my spine as I sensed an strange presence.
I glanced at Bella, but my attention was drawn to a shadowy figure moving from the hallway to the kitchen.
Before I could react, the lights flickered and died, causing the room into darkness. Fear gripped me as I stepped forward, my heart pounding.
"Turn on the flashlight, Bella. I saw someone!" I yelled, voice filled with terror.
Bella struggled for her phone, but it was broken in accident. Luna, however, calmly turned on her phone's flashlight and followed me into the darkness, but the figure had vanished.
I examined the house closely. Its three floors held secrets within: a bedroom, balcony, unused rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a mysterious attic.
However, the house was far from ideal. Its electrical system was dead, bringing the interior into darkness. Leaky pipes echoed through the empty rooms, adding to the scary atmosphere.
We sat at the kitchen table, the silence broken only by the ticking of the clock. I noticed red stains on the wall, a chilling reminder of the house's dark history.
"Luna, what were you going to tell me earlier?" I asked, curious.
"You have awakened the evil, but it's too late to realize," Luna replied, her voice hesitant.
We couldn't understand what she meant. I looked at her eyes, noticing the beads of sweat on her forehead.
I tried to turn on the window air conditioner but it was jammed. Frustration surged through me as I punched the device.
My gaze drifted to the window, and my breath caught in my throat. A dark-haired toddler, with bloodshot eyes and a sinister grin, was on the swing.
Our eyes met, and a wave of fear washed over me. The toddler pulled out a knife, its sharp blade glinting in the dim light. Panic seized me as I tried to open the window, but it was firmly locked.
"What's wrong?" Bella asked, confused.
I pointed to the window, my finger trembling. The swing had broken, its wooden frame lying shattered on the ground.
"What? There's nothing there. I just see a broken swing," Bella said, dismissive.
"A toddler was on that swing a moment ago!" I insisted, my voice rising.
"No, Lily, how could a toddler play on a broken swing? Wake up, it was broken since we entered," Bella said, impatient.
"It broke just now! He was right there!" I argued, desperate.
I couldn't believe my eyes. A chill ran down my spine as I realized the terrifying truth. Flashback got me and I indeed saw it broken when we entered.
"The evil spirit, trapped within the walls, awaited its next victims, those who dared to cross its entrance and you are the ones," Luna trailed off, her voice filled with disturbing.
We heard footsteps outside. My heart pounded as I feared the worst. The doorbell rang. Luna stood to open it, but a question lingered in my mind: Who was it?
