30th of May

Sana scowled at the still figure wrapped up in the covers. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and it was nearing noon, yet Y/N was still in dreamland. Sana had plans for both of them, but she couldn't do those with one person asleep.

She had hoped that the other girl had lost her habit of oversleeping, but apparently not.

Showering quickly and putting on an oversized shirt, she loomed over Y/N. She planted her hands on her hips and took a deep breath. "Wake up!"

Y/N whined and buried her head into her pillow, but Sana peeled away the covers. "Come on, lazy pants. There are so many things to do!"

"Isn't it a rest day?" It was yet another rest day, but Sana wanted to spend time with Y/N for some unexplainable reason. She just felt some sort of attraction to the other girl. Besides, it's not very healthy to stay in bed all day long; Y/N had already been sleeping for twelve whole hours.

"Yes, but-"

"Go away." With that, Y/N rolled herself into a burrito, desperately trying to cling onto the storyline of her latest dream. Sana scoffed, crossing her arms.

"No need to be rude, Grumpy."

That woke her up. Y/N shot up with a groggy glare, a frown, and several stray locks on her face. "Grumpy? Well, Sunshine, I don't feel like doing stuff today. Leave me alone!"

Sana's lip twitched upward. "Sunshine?"

Y/N felt her ears go hot in embarrassment upon realizing that that name was in no way insulting. In fact, it could even be interpreted as a term of endearment! She groaned and flopped back down onto her bed, covering her red face with the covers.

"That's so cute!" Sana teased. Her infectious laugh entered Y/N's ears, prompting a smile on her face against her will. "I don't mind you calling me that."

"Okay, Sunshine, go to sleep and make it night."

Y/N was perched on the room's padded seat, facing the huge windows. The room was oddly quiet only because Sana was showering, leaving Y/N to her thoughts.

Her eyebrows were furrowed as she stared into the distance, not really focusing on anything. Her fingers tapped the wooden table before her in a rhythmic pattern, almost impatiently. Her expression lit up when her phone started vibrating. Y/N grinned, snatching up the device and answering the call. "Yoongi!"

A masculine laugh was heard from the other line. "Hey, Y/N. What's up?"

"You didn't call me in 3 days!"

"Sorry, I was busy. But aren't you on that school trip?"

"Yeah."

"Heard you have roommates." Y/N scoffed at the suggestive tone in her brother's voice, laughing as she fell back on her bed.

"Shut up, Yoongi. I got paired up with this girl named Sana. She's.. fine, I guess."

Yoongi hummed. "Just fine? I heard you've been hanging out a lot. You sure she's just fine?"

"Don't know what you're talking about." Y/N chuckled. The atmosphere was evidently brighter, much to the surprise of Sana upon exiting the bathroom. Her hair was still wet, a brown sweater hanging off her figure.

"Y/N?" She asked curiously, eyes falling on the other girl's raised hand.

The taller girl looked over at her, her eyes still in the shape of crescents. "Hey, Sunshine."

Sana blushed. She didn't expect Y/N to keep using that nickname, but she wasn't complaining. She liked this side of Y/N, too: The much happier and energetic side.

"Sunshine? I see you, Y/N."

Sana frowned confusedly at the unfamiliar voice. "You on the phone or something?"

"Yeah, I'm on a call with my brother. Wanna talk to him?"

Yet again, Y/N surprised her. She shrugged and approached the other girl, placing her mouth near the speaker. "Um, hi?"

"Hello." Yoongi paused, possibly thinking of other things to say. "Take care of my sister, alright? I'm glad she found you, you seem nice. Don't let her stay in her shell."

"Stop it, brother." Y/N rolled her eyes. "I'm fine."

"That's what you always say. Anyway, I gotta go. I'll call you tomorrow."

"Bye!" Y/N and Sana chorused. They became aware of their close proximity, their noses almost touching, with Sana's hand resting on Y/N's shoulder. Y/N sent Sana an awkward smile and moved away, burying her hands in her pockets.

"Um, want to go to the mall?"

Sana raised her eyebrows. "You? Suggest activities? Woah."

"Hey, I'm full of surprises."

She chuckled, her head thrown back in pure bliss. Her eyes were closed, her nose scrunching up as her chest heaved in breathless laughter, her hand bringing up to cover her mouth. When she finished, she stared at Y/N fondly through her shining eyes. "You really are. Should we go?"

"Just a moment." Y/N took out her phone once again and typed a message in their class group chat. "I'll be in the mall with Sana. Not sure when we'll get back, Ms. Lee."

Their classmates replied before Ms. Lee could even read the message. Suddenly the chat was filled with teasing, until Ms. Lee put a stop to it by sending a message.

A thumbs-up emoji.

Never knew Ms. Lee was a dry texter, Y/N thought. She shrugged and turned to Sana. "You done, or what?"

Y/N was starting to regret her decision. Her arms were weighed down by countless shopping bags, all filled with clothes her roommate had purchased. Her face remained expressionless as she watched Sana run up to an ice cream stall excitedly.

This small action oddly reminded Y/N of a happy dog running to the door for a walk. She didn't know how, or why, but she envisioned Sana with puppy ears and a tail. Not much needed to make her look like a Shiba, to be honest.

Shaking herself from her thoughts, Y/N approached the middle-aged woman standing behind the counter. In her moment of hesitance, Sana had already struck up a conversation with the cashier.

Before the shorter girl could bring out her wallet, Y/N had already placed her card on the table. "Whatever she ordered," she muttered. "And, uh, vanilla."

Once their ice creams were placed in front of them, the cashier asked an unexpected question. "So, you guys dating or what? I know it's not my business, just wanted to say you two are adorable."

Startled, Y/N spun around to face her friend, but the brunette was already at a table, contentedly scooping mouthfuls of dessert into her mouth. "Yeah, no," the tall girl denied. "We're just friends. Roommates. Classmates. Uh, definitely not dating."

The cashier smirked. "Yeah, right. Roommates. Well, enjoy your ice cream!"

Y/N was silent the whole time, wondering if friend was really the only thing she could call Sana.
