I was put in an orphanage when I was two, it was like my own personal hell. My hair was the colour of blood and because my eyes were two different colours, one eye was an intense green while the other was an equally intense blue, I was mocked for five years straight.Until one day when I couldn't take it anymore, when everyone was gone to sleep I climbed out the window of my room. I didn't have nor wanted to take any of my belongings. I could feel the soft breeze on my face the gentil rustle of the grass and trees swaying in the wind, I climbed down the pipe beside the window, I lost my grip on the pipe and nearly broke my ankle as I fell to the ground, but I was free from that horror house and free to do as I wish, but my freedom was only short lived because one of the care takers must have saw me climb down the pipe and dragged me back to the orphanage by the ear.
As she brought me back some of the girls had woken up and glared at me for interrupting their sleep. I was through forcefully into my room, but as the door closed behind me, it was strange it was like I saw a shadow scurry away from the window. I sat on my not so comfortable bed and began to cry soundless tears, is it so much to ask , to want to leave this place?. That night I sleep never came, it eluded me a every turn. Once I thought I could fall asleep the reality that I'd still be hear terrified me.
The next day I kept thinking to myself that I will never escape this place, never feel the true felling of freedom, never experience new things, never find a family who loves me. The kindest care taker in the orphanage was a old woman called Annie, but for some reason I hear older people call her Shadow. She called for me to go to the Main Hall and wait for her, as I walked down the stairs to get to the main hall, the girls tripped me and I went tumbling down the stairs and I fell as far as the bottom step. The girls sniggered and laughed at my pain, rage was building up inside.
My heart started racing, my blood pressure was pressed to new heights. I was about to let all my anger out on the girls had I not heard a choking noise, I looked up to see the three girls turning blue from lack of oxygen. There legs shaking, torso trembling. Their hands reached up to their throat as if it would help the situation. One of the girls fell to her knees with a crack that sounded like bone. My head was spinning with questions 'What is going on why can't they breath?.' 'what is going on?.' 'Why can't no one tell me?.' 'Why? Why!? Why!?.'
I heard a noise come from the kitchen and focused my attention there and I heard the girls gasp as they inhaled the air around them, they ran up the stairs yelling 'freck', 'demon' every word under the sun. I hugged my knees into my chest and started rocking back and forth, soft sobs escaped my lips, until I felt a gentil hand on my shoulder.
I turned my face to see a blond haired man with intense green eyes, the same intensity as my one. He wore an incredibly deep red three piece suit with a black shirt and a scarlet red tie. He flashed me a real kind smile, something that I was unfamiliar to. Shadow came from the kitchen with a broken glass in a bag.
"Oh my, I am so very sorry, was putting the glass in the cupboard when some of the girls bumped into me and I knocked the glass." She said at a speed that shouldn't be humanly possible.
"Don't worry, I found who I was looking for." He said with a kind smile on his lips.
"Oh, Alice I have great news this is Cameron Willfall, he's your uncle and he is-" I didn't let her finish and wrapped my arms tightly around the torso of my newly found uncle. I could feel his body tense at first, but then he relaxed into my touch. He got down to eye level, I could see his eyes were red and puffy, I could tell he had been crying and he pulled me into a bone crushing hug. I didn't care I'm finally getting out of this hell hole.
That day he brought me to his house. It was more like a mansion and I was greeted by a small brunette with thick rimed glasses that covered most of her small face. She wore a floral sun dress that reached just above her knees in the middle of winter. Well that is odd I can't say anything else. A moment later she sensed our presents and turned to greet me with the same kind smile that Cameron had greeted me with.
"So this is the famous Alice. I'm Eileen, Cameron's wife." I hid behind Camron's leg and nodded in response.
"Come on Alice, theres nothing to be afraid of. Eileen is going to take you to your room that you will be sleeping in." A small smile grow on my face when I heard the words 'your room'. I stepped out from behind Cameron's legs cautiously and walked over to Eileen. She held out hand for me to take it. I hesitate for a moment not knowing if I should take her hand or not. I took her hand and she gently guided me up the stairs to 'my room'. The words still felt weird coming out of my mouth. Eileen lead me into a huge room with a king size bed in the middle of the room.
The wall were a deep shade of blue with incredibly intricate designs in black. There were was a window right above her bed that had a magnificent view of the of the river. Eileen could see the amazement in my eyes and it made her smile.
Before I could say thank you to Eileen for all of this Cameron walks in "Come on you two, dinner is ready." His soft voice sounded like sweet music. This is the start of life.
oOoOoOo
Eileen bought me to my first day of school. Which was a old georgian styled school with red bricked walls. The school was one story high, that had a rugby pitch, soccer pitch and a basketball court.
As me and Eileen walked into the school I could feel the stares from other older students and teachers. The walls were dectorated in paint done by the children. I could see children holding hands with their parents as they smile with such joy. I haven't smiled liked that in a while. We pasted door after door after door, until we came to the principals office.
"Just stay right here and I'll be right back." I nodded as she started to walk away. As I sat on the chair that was outside the office I started to observe my surrundings. The waiting room was a small four walled, box is a better term. In front of me there was a door that lead to the outside path where I saw many child walk past and stare through the window to look at me.
I ignore their stares and began to fiddle with my fingers, 'what am I doing' I thought to myself. I don't need to go to school and if I do I could be home schooled, I don't want to be stuck into another horror house with people that will hate me no matter what I do. As I was thinking to myself I didn't notice some coming in through the door.
"Hello." A soft voice sang through the air. I looked up from my lap to come face to face with a girl my age with light brown hair with a black head band to keep her fringe at bay. She was dressed in a dark blue almost navy pinafore, with a blue shirt, navy tights and black shoes. I assumed it was the school uniform as I saw a few people dressed similarly. She waited for an answer from me.
"Um, hello." I said shyly, looking down at the ground.
"Your really shy aren't you?" She giggled. She walked over to me and sat down beside me.
"So, what's your name?" She said cheerfully.
"It's Alice." I said meekly.
"Alice huh, that's a really pretty name, my name is Ruby. Ruby O'Shaughness." She exuded confidences as she spoke. "Do you want to be my friend?" Ruby asked curiously.
I looked shocked as I have never been asked to be someones friend. I was always the one person people shunned, I would ask them if they wanted to play something and I would be rejected on the spot. As I was thinking inside my mind I forgot that Ruby was still waiting for an answer. 'what have I got to lose?' I thought to myself.
"Yeah, I would really like to be your friend." I replied over joyed. Her smile widened and she wrapped her arms around me and pulled me into a tight hug. Why is it when anyone touches me, my chest begins to tighten and my heart rate goes up. It has happened with Cameron and now Ruby. It's just this strange feeling.
