I could feel the sun burning my eyes before I even opened them. And something tickling my nose—hair. But it wasn't mine. My eyes creaked open, my vision blurry at first.
I didn't remember falling asleep, but I did remember she was there. She had stayed with me. Even after I had been kind of an asshole. To be honest, if I had known about...everything...before, I wouldn't have messed with her so much. I wanted to kick myself for being so stupid.

But there she was, her head on my chest and her slim arm tossed across my waist, close, so close to—

Munson, pull yourself together. I tried to think about anything but the warmth of her arm across my body but it was hot, so hot, branding my skin.

The wild, blond, curls were stern every which way and I tried to move them from next to my nose without her waking up. I didn't want to disturb her. She looked peaceful. I blew it out of my way, trying not to sneeze, when she groaned a little bit and shifted. I froze.

"Eddie?" She yawned and moved her hand to my chest, pushing her hair back. "'Morning."

"Morning, sweetheart." I whispered, her hair back in my face and I decided I didn't care. It smelled good. Like her and like clean shampoo. I liked it a lot. Her eyes opened, looking up at me and...we just kind of froze like that. Our eyes locked, my breath was jagged and quick in my throat. I started.

"Can I—can I kiss you...?" Our faces had been slowly getting closer, and she flicked her eyes up through her lashes. She nodded.

I leaned in slowly, I didn't want to upset her again, and I felt the heat of her breath on my lips, on my teeth, before I felt them. My breath was shuddering and I was pretty fucking sure I was embarrassed about it, but I didn't really care.

Our lips connected, and her breath was ragged on mine. Her hand slid from my chest to my arm and I was frozen for a second. Then I trailed my fingers from where they were at my side, to her neck. And like a glove they fit, cupped behind her head and my thumb tracing her earlobe. I licked at her front teeth and went back into the kiss. She moaned lightly next to me. She wants me. She wants me. My mind was reeling as I kissed her, her body against mine.
I was getting hard with her so close to me, I couldn't help it. The sounds she was making, the heat of her so close to me, the feel of her lips against mine, against my jaw.

Afraid it was gonna end, I shot up onto my knees. I kicked off my sneakers, not realizing I had slept in them, and shrugged out of my jacket. My necklace snagged onto the flannel, but she waited patiently as I hovered over her again. She smiled and her eyes were lazy and glittering in the sun that was starting to blaze into the boat house. Her hair was in shambles all around her on the blankets. I pushed a strand away from her eyebrow and just...looked at her. I would have been happy to just do that, to never touch her again if I could just...see her smiling at me.
My necklace was dangling over her face and she giggled.
