"No, I get that, but you can't just keep saying you're sorry and expect everything to be okay mum. You left, that's fine. But I'm not just going to forget everything that happened before that."

Mary jumped up from her seat and moved over to her daughter. She knelt down so she was eye level with her and stared with pleading eyes.

"Please. I'm so so so sorry. I shouldn't have done any of that. I know was a terrible mum, but I'm better now-"

"After 16 years!"

"I know. I know. I should've contacted you sooner. But after what happened to your father, I would've assumed you'd never want to see me again."

Cassie nodded, avoiding eye contact. "You're right. I don't. I'm going."

The brunette stood up and began walking toward the door. She was about to open it when a hand grasped around her wrist.

"Please, please don't leave. I've missed my baby girl so much. Please. Me you and Carl could be a happy family again."

She paused.

She turned to face her mother.

The 23-year-old frowned, "who's Carl?"

Mary's face dropped at that. "Your father never told you?"

"Told me what?"

Taking a deep breath, and releasing her wrist, the woman smiled slightly in an attempt to seem calm.

"Your brother. Why do you think I left?" Cassie gulped, not sure what to think anymore. Was everything a lie? "Your father found out about my other.... Lover. We'd had a kid together before you, he kept him and I saw him every weekend. Carl. He really wants to meet you."

What?

This couldn't be happening.

None of this could be happening.

"How old is he?"

"26."

"So, you were still together with dad? How did he not know?"

"He thought it was his."

Maybe it would've been different if she'd stayed.

"Is that where you left to? Left one child to go to the other?"

Mary flicked to those pleading eyes again. "Honey, please, it wasn't like that. I love you both but-"

"But you had more time with him. Whatever mum. I have some people who actually care enough to check up on me back home, so I'll be going to go see them."

Cassie opened the door again, and actually was able to leave without getting interrupted.

She left without another glance.

Mary sighed as she watched her daughter leave, turning her head to the side to see the male's figure hiding behind a wall.

"Did she leave? Was she angry?"

"Yeah. But don't worry. You'll help her understand, won't you darling?"
