Chapter thirty three
When Paul picked Nicole up from the street in which she lay on, He took one look at her and she knew he could sense something was wrong. She remained silent as he asked her questions about what happened. She was just too much in shock, she also didn't want to tell him that Dwayne raped her while he was driving. She knew that he would get so mad that he might crash the car. After they reached the house Paul tried to call out to her but Nicole ignored him and ran to the bathroom. Paul followed her in there.
Nicole sat on the toilet and rocked back and forth. She knew she couldn't take a shower because the proof that Dwayne raped her would be washed away. Paul knelt down in front of her, and took her face in his hands so she would look at him.
"Baby what happened?" He asked her.
She looked him in the eyes, his eyes were so pure she wondered what it was like to have it so easy in life. She never did, so she just spit it out. "Dwayne raped me tonight."
Paul's hopeful gaze broke. "What?" he asked.
"Did just not hear me? I said Dwayne raped me."
"I'm so sorry I should have been there. I'm so sorry that I wasn't here."
She laughed it was cold and harsh. "Whatever, no one's ever there for me any way."
His blue eyes looked at her with hurt in them. "Baby don't say that, I didn't know, you told me to go on with the guys."
"It's doesn't matter Paul, the fact is I've always had to take care of myself. I mean what the hell was I thinking? Thinking that you would take care of me. That you would be there when you said you would be."
She stood up and tried to walk out but he grabbed her hand to stop her. "I'm so sorry that this happened to you. But I promise you I will make it right. You can't just shut me out."
"I don't care! Just leave me alone I don't want to pretend like this life is where I'll end up. I was fooling myself Paul."
"Baby no you weren't I love you so much. Just let me help you." He said crying and reaching for her.
She pulled away. "I'm going to the hospital to get a rape kit done, I don't want you to come with me."
"You can't just go by yourself, not after what happened tonight."
"Don't worry the police will protect me you know since I don't have anyone else."
"Baby that's not true." He said walking to her.
