In order to stabilize your condition Kokushibo focused all his energy into trying to save you. He worked through the blood and the sorrow he felt but no matter what he did your condition seemed shaky.
He needed more time but after the intense night, the sun was going to come up.
As such, he moved both you and him into a cave where he continued to monitor you closely.
You had lost consciousness twice already and his hands were currently over your cheek watching to see if you'd regain your vitality.
He hoped you would.
He craved to see your beautiful eyes open, to look upon him with the same warmth as always.
A day passed and you didn't awake. Soon enough another day passed. It was only on the third day that he began to see a change.
The colour returned to your complexion, your breathing stabilized and your body was no longer cold.
Much to his surprise, you awoke shortly after his observations.
Your eyes fluttered open to see the dark rock above you and for a second you were confused.
You struggled to sit upright from your lying position. You worked through your dizziness but still nothing came back to mind...until it did.
You had almost died.
You took the opportunity to look around the dark cave and the light in the far distance. You didn't know where you were but it seemed you were safe.
You supposed...you should've considered yourself lucky and yet...somehow you considered yourself unlucky.
This was the second time in your life you had been on the brink of death. On the bright side, you had survived but you weren't too elated to have another bad memory added to your list.
You frowned. Were you cursed or something? Why was it that bad things always seemed to follow you?
You bit your lip feeling yourself become anxious.
You gave a heavy sigh as you tried your best to refocus your mind. You needed to calm down, your breathing slowing considerably as your thoughts sorted themselves out.
"Are you feeling alright?"
Your eyes snapped up.
Who was-
Mr.demon?
He was here?
It was then you realized he was the one who had brought you here. He had managed to save you. He had been watching over you this whole time.
You spoke, your voice weaker than usual, "I'm okay, just fatigued."
He didn't buy your words. The expression you had made was one of sadness not fatigue.
"...I know that for you to recover...you must rest...so if you're truly feeling fatigued...you should sleep."
You shook your head, "On second thought, I feel a bit better..."
"It might not last. Your injury could become infected...just because you're not bleeding...doesn't mean your out of danger."
You looked down at your shoulder, seeing it was wrapped with clothing.
You turned your head to face him, your eyes scanning him over.
You bowed your head a bit, "Thank you for everything."
"..."
"It's not a problem."
...
Your head raised slowly watching from out of the hole in the distance as the sky began to turn a lighter shade of blue.
You felt sentimental all of a sudden. You blinked and pursed your lips.
"It's such a shame."
...
Kokushibo watched you curiously.
...
"For moment, when I was about to die, I wished I was anyone else, that I could swap places with someone else. I was being selfish."
..."It's quite alright...I've decided to be selfish too now."
Selfish.
From now on, Kokushibo was going to allow himself to be selfish.
He decided that you were someone he wanted to protect. He would never hurt you, you weren't someone he wanted to harm, you were simply his.
You belonged to him.
He was going to protect you at all costs.
"I'm going to be selfish too (Y/N), it's alright to be selfish from time to time," his tone shifted, "especially after what you experienced."
"You think so? I was really loathing my thoughts at the time."
Kokushibo took a good look at your expression and grimaced. There it was, the same saddened expression. It was less of fatigue and more of shock mixed with despair.
...
"You're not okay, are you?"
You bit your lip.
No.
You weren't.
Of course you weren't. You were fighting yourself. You didn't want to cry about the experience you had suffered. This man was the last person you wanted to cry in front of.
...
"I'm fine...it's just...I really thought I was going to-"
Your voice cracked and you stopped speaking.
Your regained your composure by closing your eyes for a moment.
"I'm alright. I promise I'm..."
You stopped yourself. You could feel tears streaming down your cheeks. You could lie no further.
...
You gulped hard as you looked over at the demon to see his reaction.
Kokushibo looked at you with softening eyes.
...
You sighed, tears freely falling from your eyes as you covered your face.
"I'm sorry," you commented softly.
You attempted to curl yourself up in a ball but Kokushibo extended his arm towards you and he pulled you gently towards him, he lifted you up and his hand allowing your head to lean against his shoulder as you stayed against his sleeve.
Through your soft tears, he spoke, "From now on (Y/N)...let's spend adequate time together. I won't abandon you, I'll stay by your side..."
You didn't respond at first but after awhile you nodded.
You looked at him with sparkling eyes, wet from the tears that were in your eyes but also by some form of excitement he wasn't able to explain.
"Mr. demon."
"Yes, (Y/N)?"
Your head relaxed on to his shoulder.
"I love you."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"I love you too, (Y/N)."
