AUR short: Broom's Apprehension

Broom woke up with a yawn. The first thing he did, as usual was check his phone. He had posted a picture of him with his gay flag and Pillow with her Bigender flag the previous night. He smiled at the memory. He opened his notifications only to find something a tad worrying. The amount of dislikes were enormous. And when he checked the comments it got 10 times worse. "Kys f#g." "He's not even really gay lmao" "Y'all smh it's probably a troll" "Disgusting." Broom was confused and almost a little scared. What was going on? Were these bots? He had posted himself with his gay flag and partner before and sure. A few homophobic comments here and there. Sure. But nothing this... Violent. It was terrifying. He scrolled a little longer. Eventually finding himself doom scrolling. He couldn't stop looking at those hateful cruel comments. Even with Pillow asleep by his side. Eventually one caught his interest. "Wouldn't that make you an Mspec gay😐" he was confused. Mspec? Didn't that mean Male spectrum? He was confused. Was that just an insult? He looked on Google. "Mspec Gay" nothing helpful popped up. He sighed. "The fuck..." This seemed to wake Pillow up "Babe? You okay?" Broom looked down at him. "Oh. Yeah. I'm fine." Pillow peeked on his phone "Mspec gay? What's that mean?" Broom sighed "I don't know... People called me that in the comments of that post we made. I don't know why." Pillow plopped down on his lap. Clearly still tired after her rest. "Well it doesn't matter what they say. I love you mmkay?" Broom paused. "Yeah... Okay."

Broom spent the whole day with a huge weight on his shoulders. He kept getting more and more messages. Ranging from asking what they comments were about to posting fake IP addresses to telling him to kill himself. It seemed like his teammates noticed he was more jittery and worrisome than usual. Flower eventually walked up to him in private "Dude are you okay? You've been acting weird." Broom chuckled nervously "Yeah! I'm fine." Flower glared at him "Really? Than why have you been acting so weird?" Broom huffed "Like you haven't! You've been keeping a closer eye on Raz! Is what Dorito said really getting to you?" Flower stammered over her words for a moment before walking away with her tail between her legs. Broom huffed. He pondered for a moment. Maybe someone else knew what it meant...? But if it was a bad thing it wouldn't be good to ask... He groaned. "Fuck."

Broom spent the whole day searching everywhere for answers. Twitter, YouTube, Google, hell even reddit. When eventually something caught his eye.

BREAKING NEWS:
Vintage Static. Host of the small Reality show Unreal Reality was seen at a Multispectrum Pride parade with one of his contestants!

Broom stared at the news post for a moment. Vintage? A parade? If Vintage was at a parade he probably knew what the hell an Mspec Gay was. So he got up and walked over to Cookie and Vintages Cabin and knocked. Vintage opened the door "Oh? Broom? What's up?" Broom was visibly nervous "Hey. Uhm... Could we talk in private?" Vintage smiled"Yeah of course."

"So... I saw this news article..." Broom showed him the news article he had found. Making Vintage huff "They couldn't even get my good side?" "What's an Mspec Lesbian?" Vintage looked up at him "Why do you ask?" Broom bit his lip. "Well... I posted a picture of me and Pillow with his Bigender flag and my gay flag and people were calling me an Mspec gay.. And some other things." Vintage smiled "Oh! Than I'm happy to educate you!"

"someone can identify as an Mspec gay for plenty of reasons! Having split attraction, Being Abrosexual, Being in a system, and more! But the reason people are calling YOU an Mspec gay is because you have a Bigender partner. Since their Bigender meaning they half identity as a girl. And you had a gay flag! It's nothing to be ashamed of." Broom looked at his phone. "But... Someone said that it was created by a terf." Vintage Chimed in "There isn't any proof of that besides hearsay. But there is proof they've existed for years. WAY before the internet even!" Broom looked up at him. "Really?" "Yeah! The oldest proof of Mspec gays I could find is a quote in the book "Andy, 27, Bisexual Lives" by "Off Pink Publishing"! The book is from 1988. "I see myself as gay and bisexual. They say this cannot be. However, my lifestyle having developed over the last 10 years as an 'out' gay man, I am not going into the closet. I am still gay." But that's not event the oldest! That's for Mspec gays but there's also some stuff about Mspec Lesbians! In a book titled "We Walk Alone" by "Ann Aldrich" released in 1950 "Another sort of lesbian is the so-called bisexual. The bisexual lesbian is indeed often love hungry. Not necessarily because of her appetite is any larger than other females. Unlike many homosexuals who simply talk about Bisexuality. This lesbian lives it." Gosh i honestly love that quote. It's pretty goofy in a good way!"

Broom was pretty stunned. He stood there in silence for a bit. "So... It's not a bad thing...?" "Of course not! Say, I'll send you a link to the Google doc I got all this information from. Okay?" Broom nodded and smiled. "Thanks Vintage. I owe you one." "Don't mention it! Happy to help!"

Later that day. Broom was reading the doc. It was honestly so interesting. And yet so joy filling. He wasn't alone. He'd be lying if he said he hadn't thought about what his relationship with Pillow made him. But knowing it wasn't weird and it was relatively normal made him feel warm. He got up from his bed. "I'm not gonna sit by and keep doom scrolling damn it."

Broom walked out into the forest where no one else was. He turned on his camera and took a deep breath "Hey all! So... About my last post with my picture. I'm sure a lot of you were confused with all those dislikes and comments. I was too! But I did some research on a little something called an "Mspec gay." And through a friend of mine I learned what it meant. And so I guess I'm coming out! I'm an Mspec gay! I date Multigender people and I love my Bigender partner! Like it or not! I'm Bi-Gay! And goddamn it I'm proud of it and I'm proud of the history we have! And I'm proud of myself and who I am. No matter what anyone says. And if anyone else like me is out there you're valid. Period. No matter what any Homophobes say. Welp. Other than that I'm probably going to buy an Mspec gay flag and come out to everyone else. It doesn't really change much though. With that peace out y'all!" Broom stopped the recording and smiled. Now all he had to do is edit it!

Broom was on his bed after posting the video. Pillow cuddled up to him. Broom scrolled through the comments. He had used different tags this time. #inclustwt and #mspecgayweek since apparently that was this week! Just his luck right? He would occasionally see an exclusionist comment. But the majority of the comments were flooded with love and support. He couldn't help but smile. It was so nice knowing so many people cared. He could see OK on his bed. Smiling while scrolling his phone. He thought he caught a glimpse of the Lesboy flag (Something he learned on Twitter!), But it was probably his imagination. That got him curious. Who was the contestant with Vintage at the parade? Too bad he forgot to bookmark the newspost.
