Cecilia "Ruby" Williams: I had been working at the Diner for two months now and I decided instead of staying at home reading the news I would go out. I had left the Diner and put on cute clothes for once. It felt nice. Camila offered every week if I wanted to see her husband play in his band but I never said yes.
Cecilia "Ruby" Williams: I finally said yes. It was the best decision I had ever made. I don't regret it and I don't think the band knows that.
I had been walking all night. It was 10 pm by the time I made it to The Whiskey a go-go. I go up to the front of the line and many people seem angered by that but ignore it. Camila told me to up to the bouncer and tell him my name.
He lets me in immediately and I walk into a room full of smoke, drugs, and alcohol. It was the smell of excitement. I loved being at parties and never leaving till you pushed out.
I walk around a little bit before I see Camila standing near the front of the stage. We greet each other and hug. For an hour she points out all the band members and you can see in her eyes the love she has.
"Ooh, so what about him?" She says pointing to a man leaning against the wall while a cigarette lays in between his fingers.
"We're just talking sex, right?" I say to her as I look at the man. He wasn't awful looking but seemed a little full of himself by the way he's staring at others.
"Oh, god, yes! I can't stand the dating culture nowadays. Though I guess I can't say anything," She laughs out. I laugh with her.
"He looks like an actor," I say turning back towards. "No actors, that's my rule. Musicians are out too," I say with a little laugh.
"God, who does that leave?" We both laugh as we take a sip of our drinks. I make a face when I taste it. I've never had a bad martini before. Guess my taste buds are changing. "Ok, wait, i'll just check the list,"
She takes out an imaginary notepad. "Ok, we've got musicians, bartender, actors..." We laughed it off and continued jut talking and talking.
"You know, I was terrified to call you. I thought you would be some gossipy, phoney Californian ready to eat me for breakfast,"
"To be honest, at first I was scared I made the wrong call. But I think you and I are gonna get along just fine," She says with her signature smile.
"Me too," I say with a laugh. I swallow my drink but almost gag it up. Camila gives me a werid look. I shake my head.
"I can't keep anything down lately. I think I'm coming down with the flu," I tell her. She looks at me for a long second. Before shaking her head and looking back at the stage. "What?"
"Nothing," She says as she won't look at me.
"Camila, what is it?" I ask her. She just shakes her head as she looks away from me.
"It's... nothing," Camila says ignoring me.
"Just tell me," I say. She sighs.
"Maybe... it's not the flu," She says. I don't understand what she means. "Oh, don't giver me that look. You're married... maybe not to a man you love but do you think you're pregnant?"
I stop in shock. No. No. No. I can't be. I haven't even seen Dan in two months. I can't be.
"No. I can't be. I would have to be at least 4 months pregnant. Theres no way I wouldn't have noticed earlier," I say. No tone was in my voice. I was in utter shock. My mind was running in circles.
Cecilia "Ruby" Williams: Camila had left and went to go get me a pregnancy test. I decided drinking was gonna fix my problems [She shakes her head]. It didn't.
I see a man standing at the bar. He looks like the drummer who was just on stage. He turns around a looks at me. I look away immediately but try and take one more glance. As I look up he's still looking at me. I gulp down the rest of my drink and I walk over there slowly and order myself another one.
"A vodka cranberry, please," I say to the bartender, he nods at me. I turn to the side and I see the same man with curly brown hair and brown eyes looking at me. "I'm Ruby,"
"Ahh, the girl with Camila?" He says with a smirk.
"I am. And I have absolutely no idea who you are," I did. Camila talked about everyone in the band. She loved them so much, I swear I knew them personally.
"Hmmm, well I can change that," Warren says to me, while leaning in. He checks me out. He takes in my long, wavy hair, my blue eyes, red lipstick, even that little mole on my left cheek. I feel tense and nervous, but there's something attractive about that. "I'm Warren,"
"I'm back," I hear as I turn around and see Camila with a little paper bag. I nod at her, and take a deep breath. "I see you've met Warren," She says in a calm voice.
Camila Dunne: I was trying my hardest to not give away what was happening. Ruby looked so pale and scared. Warren did not need to know what was going on right then.
"I'm gonna go," I give Camila the look. She nods at me. "It was nice meeting you, Warren,"
Warren Rhodes: You know I think she regrets that night. Agreeing to go, I mean. [He looks down] I don't.
Interviewer: She doesn't. She told me.
Warren Rhodes: [He looks at her for a minute][gets up to get water]
Cecilia "Ruby" Williams: I had peed on it and then waited.... and waited. Those 5 minutes felt like an hour. I had been pacing back and forth.
This was it. I turn around and that would would be my future. I slowly turned around and looked down. There it was... positive. I couldn't breath. I picked it up and it felt like a 500lb weight.
Cecilia "Ruby" Williams: I don't know how I was so naive back then. [she shakes her head]. In a way, this was a blessing and a curse. I was a stupid little girl who thought a baby would fix all her problems.
Cecilia "Ruby" Williams: And that is how I found my way back to Dan.
