An unexpected arrival

I had to go back to school today because we had a maths exam approaching us and me and Abi wanted to get as much help the teachers as we could get.... To be truthful I felt like a squat. I was only really there because Abi was and I didn't really believe I'd get up to much revision sat at home alone all day, so I came in.

It was a strange feeling to be back.

It felt like I didn't belong there anymore, like my days were over and now if I stood back into school I'd have to approach things like an adult.

Sounds draining and I wasn't up for growing up as fast as becoming a grown up would suggest.

I'll take my time.

-----

The session went well. I found that I did learn something. Which was more of an accomplishment than I would have learnt if I was at home.

----

It was our break and so we decided to leave to the Library. That way perhaps we'd be away from all the eyes, the students who give us that unwelcome look which sends me the impression that I shouldn't be there.

----

The library was quiet, not a penny drop could be heard.

Then the bell sounded and our peace and quiet was taken over by hordes students, chatting about their dramas and ranting about their lessons.

"Goodness" I said to Abi. "That's ended fast"

After a few moments of getting used to the change in atmosphere, Abi began to speak,

"You know that Emma and Louise walked past whilst we were in Sir's room you know?"

"Oh no I didn't know that... I wonder why,-"

"-Geography exam."

"Ah, of course."

I didn't know quite what to say if I'm honest. So what Emma's in school.

Maybe I'm a little nervous, as I know if I see her I will freak out, I just feel awful with what I did to her.

"Hey guys"

Speak of the devil.

"Hey Emma" said Abi.

I turned to face her. I'd pictured it would be hard, but it wasn't because her voice sounded.... not bothered.

"Hey Emma!"

I could feel myself change in her presence.

I was so nervous but excited at the same time. I thought carefully and carelessly at the same time, I know it sounds strange but that's exactly how I felt.

I watched Emma grab a chair and she posed right between me and Abi.

We spoke about the exams, how revisions been and how weird it is to have left school.

"So where's Louise? I saw you with her earlier?" Asked Abi.

"Oh she's gone home now, so I'm pretty much alone before my exam."

"Well we are staying until midday.. well I am anyway" said Abi.

I was meant to be going home with her, but then I didn't want to leave Emma... Again.

"I'll stay, if you want Emma. If that's okay Abi."

"That's fine, I hadn't even told my mum that she was dropping you home yet anyway."

"Yeah please stay." Said Emma.

I will stay. For as long as I can possibly spare.

There was no mention of prom or about our last messages to each other, it was like it had never happened.

However, as I looked into her brown eyes I could see the hurt and betrayal that she had felt and still was feeling. I knew and she must know too that we were avoiding conversation.
