The school year was coming to a close - it was April. Finally, high school was about to be over. But all wasn't good. My girlfriend Celeste and I weren't on the best terms. Yes, I date girls which is hard enough when it comes to my parents, but Celeste wasn't doing anything to make my situation better. It was bad enough we went to separate schools and only saw each other on weekends.

I mean, ever since we'd been dating, there were constant arguments and fallouts. In the words of one of my best friend London, Celeste was the puppeteer of our relationship and I was merely the puppet. And after over a year of it, I was tired - tired of her talking to whoever she wanted when the people like her and disrespected our relationship; tired of her talking to me any kind of way and yelling and cursing; and most of all just not appreciating me after all I'd done. But that's a story for another day.

One of my good friends Kameron was late coming to our second class one Friday morning. She finally trotted on in about fifteen minutes after the bell. "Where have you been?" I inquired as she plopped into the desk adjacent to mine.

"I was showing new kids around the school," she explained in a quick pant, "One is a freshman. His name is Joseph and he's really adorable. Then there's two juniors named Jamie and Robert. They're cool too," she explained as she pulled out a notebook to get her homework.

"Ahh, look at you making new friends," I joked. I wasn't very sociable so I hadn't signed up to be an office aid, but it was right up Kameron's alley.

"No not really," she laughed. "Jamie and Joseph are cool. Robert is ghetto so that's a no go. He was trying to get my number, Brooke! I was like 'sir, please stop!'" she went on in an animated voice. "Jamie moved her from New Jersey. She's really sweet and stuff. She said she has a boyfriend back home though that she misses a lot. Joseph is like...a nerd, but he's really chill and cool. I'll have to show them to you."

I shrugged. "You know I don't really care much for people," I reminded.

"I know, I know. Maybe it'd get your mind of off Celeste, you know?" Kameron grinned before giving me an ugly wink.

I chuckled shaking my head, "you know I'm not into boys," I pointed out.

"Jamie? You could sweep her off her feet," she joked.

"You just said she had a boyfriend!" I laughed.

"Turn her out, Brooke," she giggled, "Nah I'm kidding."

"Yeah I know. Plus, I am still with Celeste. And just because she goes around and flirts with people and crap doesn't mean I'm going to," I said. Kameron shrugged. "I'm serious!" I told her. She shrugged again, this time adding a coy grin. "Whatever," I laughed punching her lightly.

Later that evening, I got on face time with Celeste. She was apparently in a bad mood from who knows what earlier that day. "Hey, my baby," I cooed.

"I'm not in the mood, Brooke," Celeste muttered.

"What's wrong?" I asked her trying to soothe her.

"Nothing, Brooke. Just shut up talking, damn," she snapped. I sighed and decided to stay quiet so I wouldn't bother her. A few moments later, she sighed irritably. "So you're not going to talk?"

"You told me to be quiet!" I whined in defense.

"Ugh, whatever. You get on my damn nerves," she grumbled. I sighed and sulked quietly. This is one of the things I meant - every day, I came home eager to talk to my girlfriend, but I was rarely greeted with the same enthusiasm. On top of that, for whatever reason she was angry, I wasn't the cause of it, so why take it out on me?
