"Oh gods now that they know who they are, their scents will be stronger," Max said as the golden harp over my head began to fade.
"But I don't know wh-" I began but the kid with curly hair cut me off.
"Come on sunshine! Time to go to camp!" He said as he opened his briefcase.
The whole mechanism unfolded and rearranged itself into a ginormous, metal dragon.
"Festus, meet Melody and Lilibeth. Melody and Lilibeth, this is Festus" he said, introducing the dragon. Festus creaked and clicked and blew a small flame onto the boy. He laughed.
"Oh and I'm Leo! This is Percy, Will, and Rachel."
"Valdez, this is no time for introductions." The boy with dark hair said. Percy. "It's only a matter of time befo-"
The building shook. I crouched down on the floor and my wristwatch turned into a bow and quiver. I notched an arrow and waited. Another bang shook the whole school and dust rained from the ceiling tiles. I remembered the storm spirt mentioning his "minions". Now was time for war.
Percy had pulled out a ballpoint pen and Leo was reaching in his tool belt. Will was also holding a bow and arrow. Lilibeth seemed unarmed. I stood in front of her as the giant wolf I had seen this morning bounded down the hall. Percy uncapped his pen and it turned into a sword. He charged down the hall like a maniac. Will followed close behind.
"That's our cue to go!" Leo yelled as he boarded Festus and helped Rachel up. Max climbed up after him and offered me a hand. I shook my head. I was staying to fight. This was my time to prove myself. If my father had just "claimed" me, this was my opportunity to show him that he hadn't made a mistake.
The window to my right shattered as three old ladies with bat wings crashed into the building.
"We shall kill the children of Apollo, the traitor to Olympus," they hissed as they swooped towards Lilibeth and I.
I waited until the perfect moment, and then set the arrow free. It shot through all three of the monsters at once. Three deadly wounds turned to three piles of sand on the floor. Another empousai, what Alexandra had been, charged me and I stabbed it with the back of my bow. While it was still stunned, I knocked it to the ground and shot an arrow straight through its heart. I checked down the hall. Will and Percy were now struggling with two of the beasts. I ran down the hall to help but was stunned when a blonde, teenage boy wearing a Superman sweatshirt flew through the open window and landed next to me.
"Aw yes! I haven't fought in so long!" He chatted excitedly, as if we were merely childhood friends and not charging towards our death.
"Jason Grace," he introduced.
"Melody Anderson," I replied.
I kept my eyes on the giant canine as I charged with this blonde Superman who called himself Jason. I notched an arrow and let it fly. It hit the beast right in the eye and it howled. Great, now it was focusing on me. It growled, fixed its good eye on me, and charged. It bounded down the hallway and I reached for another arrow. I found nothing. My quiver was empty. This was the end. I watched as the beast approached. 20 feet. 15 feet. 10 feet. Time seemed to pass in slow motion. The thing was so close that I could see it's glowing red eyes and matted black fur.
Before it could attack and turn me into 100 pounds of ground meat, a pair of cold hands grabbed me by the shoulders and pulled me out of the way. I turned and found myself face-to-face with a pale boy in black jeans and a leather jacket. He put a finger to his lips and smirked. He then grabbed my hands and we melted into the shadows. Literally.
