Day 3: Rain

Writing Style: Descriptive

"Would you like me to bring an umbrella?"

"No, I like the rain. It doesn't bother me one bit."

Shadow felt the same, as long as it wasn't pouring. The rain was supposed to be a steady fall, but it hadn't even started when they left the house. They had planned to go on a walk in the rain, finding a small pond or lake somewhere just to listen to the raindrops hitting the water, allowing the humidity and earthy smell to calm their souls.

It wasn't a bad idea, as it didn't require a crazy amount of talking or effort. It was a bonding moment that focused solely on presence, something that they did often together. Besides, going outside wouldn't hurt, whether it was raining or not. Silence and holding hands was all that was needed right now.

Only after a few minutes down the sidewalk did they start to feel a few drops on their bodies, and that's when they realized that it was only going to increase from there. Silver looked down at the concrete to watch the dark spots appear more and more frequently, until soon, a rhythmic patter sound accompanied it. The roads started to become shiny with water, and the sky no longer showed the sun.

It was getting darker, and the air was rich with the smell of rain as it fell calmly, yet in the perfect amount of even coating across the land. However, Shadow's ear twitched at the sound of yawns and quiet groans from Silver, which led him to look over. Along with the rain and darkness came cooler temperatures, apparently cold enough to cause Silver some discomfort. Shadow should've brought the umbrella anyway.

Silver was folding his arms with his shoulders slightly raised. He kept his head down as they walked, but Shadow knew that he was only going to get colder and that they shouldn't stay outside for much longer. So, he searched for a bus stop nearby, hoping that there was one en route with the sidewalk they were walking on. And after a good moment, he came across one. It must've been luck.

Shadow pulled his arm out of his jacket sleeve before wrapping half of his jacket around Silver, pulling him closer. Now, they were shoulder to shoulder, and Silver looked over at him in slight confusion which masked his embarrassment.

"Why didn't you wear something warmer?"

The reason that Shadow looked for a bus stop was because they always had benches and a covering overhead. So, he sat both of them down on the bench, shielded from the rain for a moment.

"I wanted to believe that it was going to be a warm rain."

"That only happens in the summer, Silver."

They stayed huddled on the bench for a few minutes, and Shadow hoped that a bus would turn up at some point. He didn't want Silver to be walking back home with him in the rain, it was getting colder by the minute. However, nobody came, and it had almost been fifteen minutes by now.

Cars that had passed by had a signature hush sound from the rain collecting on the road, and soon everything was dripping with water. Trees, lamp posts, signs, anything. A repetitive drop sound emitted from them, but it all merged together so well.

Even though their plans were sidetracked and didn't work out the way that they wanted it to, they were still together, enjoying each other's company. They were close to each other, their body heat coming together and writhing between the two of them. The closeness was silently affectionate, which kept a smile on Silver's face and gave comfort to Shadow's soul. It was enough, and that's all that they could ask for.
