We've been friends for almost a year now, Demi and I. We met through social media but hadn't met in person, as much as we both wanted to. I had talked to her family through social media and developed a bond with her mom, one I grew to value more than I ever thought I would. Much like Demi - her whole family were such down to earth, loving and genuine people who only wanted the best for the people they loved.
I eventually convinced my boss to give me a week off of work and booked a plane ticket to LA to finally meet Demi which brings us to now.
The crowded airport sent my anxiety through the roof. From people talking about their plans when they reached their destination to the crying children who shared the anxiety I had about flying. I buried my mind in a book that I had intended on reading on the flight until I heard the gate for my flight was open and we were asked to board. Demi being Demi did offer to send her private jet to pick me up to save all the chaos that comes with travelling alone but I politely declined - I didn't want her to have any impression that I was using her or allowing her to spend a penny on me.
The flight lasted a few hours and I eventually landed in LA. I had my speculations that LAX would be busier than the airport back home but nothing could've prepared me for the chaos here. The loud noises mixed with the heat was enough to make me want to get out of there ASAP. I made a quick run for the exit of the airport, only to be met by a guy holding a sign with my name on... Damn it Demi. I approach the guy and he brings be to a shiny black SUV that if I didn't know better, would've been the biggest red flag for me to get out of there. I get in after putting my luggage in the trunk and we start the drive to Demi's place.
After about 45 mins of driving, we pull up to a house that I'd only ever seen on a screen before. The exterior was solid white and surrounded by 20ft trees for privacy. I grab my cases and go up to the front door. Nerves take over my body once again.
I press the doorbell and wait anxiously for something to happen or someone to appear and after what felt like forever, the giant wooden door opened to reveal Demi who might I add, is even more beautiful in person if that's possible. A shiver of warmth runs through my whole body as I'm pulled into a tight embrace that I eventually reciprocate after processing everything going on. "It's so nice to finally meet you" Demi says quietly in my ear, still holding onto me like her life depended on it. I smile and nod against her shoulder, afraid of the unhuman noises that might escape my mouth if I try to speak.
We pull away from eachother after what feels like forever and smile at eachother, in awe that we're finally in eachother's presence in person. I look down and grab the handle of my case as Demi invites me inside her beautiful home. She gives me a very brief tour of her home before taking me to one of her guest bedrooms. "Okay, this is where you'll be staying. There's a bathroom through that door and a closet over there if you wanna unpack anything. Other than that, I'll get out of your way so you can settle in. I'll be in the lounge when you're done and wanna hang out!" Demi explains, pointing at 2 doors next to eachother. I'm so glad I have my own bathroom, a shower sounds so good right now and the last thing I need is Demi accidentally walking in on me. She leaves me in the room and I make myself at home the best I can with the underlying anxiousness in my stomach. Once I was as unpacked as I was gonna be for the week, I go into the bathroom for a shower and was met with the most beautiful bathroom I had ever seen. A waterfall shower boarded in by solid glass walls, a bathtub in the corner and a huge vanity with a sink and LED mirror. I hadn't really put much thought into my bathroom back at home and was definitely picking up some ideas for when I go back home. I snap a quick selfie in the mirror before getting in a much needed shower.
Once I had showered, I grabbed my sweats and a tee and headed down to chill with Demi. Thankfully the anxiety I was feeling, was slowly going away and I felt like I could breathe properly instead of being in a fight or flight state. I met Demi in her lounge and saw her wrapped up in a blanket and watching a crime show on the ID channel. "Hey you, all settled?" she asked as I walked in and sat on the couch next to her. I nodded and allowed my head to lay against the back of the couch. "I didn't realise until I showered just how stressed I was with all of the travelling, I really don't know how you do it so much" I said giggling at the end. She smiled back at me and started talking about how she wasn't wanting to travel as much for that reason, that and she wanted to spend more time with her family and friends in LA. "I mentioned to my mom that you were coming to LA and she was so excited. She's gonna be mad at both of us if we don't see her and Dallas while you're here - her words, not mine" She said, joking about mine and her mom's relationship. We both laughed and agreed that making plans with her and Dallas would be part of the week's itinerary.
We spent most of my first day in LA just hanging out, watching TV shows and catching up on life since our last call. I couldn't help but catch the way Demi was looking at me throughout the day, it wasn't a way I had ever been looked at before and I caught myself returning the gaze a few times... what is going on?

AN// I'm definitely gonna be exploring this imagine a little more so I hope you're all okay with that! What do you think is gonna happen when you meet Demi's family? 👀
