"I Don't Remember"

I grunted as I sat up, aching evident in my body. I clenched my jaw as I laid back and relaxed my body instead of forcing it up. I looked over at a sleeping Mark whose chest was slowly rising and falling again. His hair laid messily on the couch arm where his head sat, and his legs were propped on the other couch arm. The couch was honestly just big enough to fit him which made me chuckle a little. I hadn’t made much of a noise but apparently it was loud enough to wake up Mark from his sleep. He opened his eyes and grunted as he stretched his body as far out as he could. He finally sat up and started popping his neck and the rest of his body. Soon enough his gray eyes met mine and a small smile made its way to his face. “How do you feel?” He asked me softly.

“Good, why?” I stated confused. I had never heard his voice become that soft before. I had only known him for a little while though.

“Nothing, just trying to make sure you’re alright. You took a bit of a tumble, and I was concerned that you might be hurt. What do you remember?” He said, now standing up and sitting next to me instead of the adjacent couch.

“I’m a little sore but I’m alright. I don’t remember falling though for some reason. The last thing I remember is us going to a diner and having dinner together, then we walked here for work. Right?” I stated unsure.

“Good you remember, and you’re still sharp.” He said patting my back. “Come on, you and I are going to take a walk in the park again and talk.” He spoke again, pulling my sore body up with him making me groan in response. He laughed at my pain making me scowl annoyed at him, before grumbling a ‘It’s not funny Mark.’. He laughed again louder this time still holding me up with everything he could muster.

“How does my body hurt this bad after a small fall?” I questioned out loud. His laughing suddenly stopped, and his eyes searched mine for something. “You did tumble pretty good Matty.” He stated.

“I know but it doesn’t make sense for my whole body to hurt like this Mark. I might call my doctor friend and see what could cause it.” I sighed out.

“No!” He yelled taking my phone from me and throwing it on the couch he knew I couldn’t get too.

“I want to try some home remedies first. You don’t want to buy anything if its easily fixable Matty, that would be a waste of money.” He said smiling kindly. I nodded knowing he was right; it didn’t make sense. “You want to match today while we go out in the park?” He asked softly, almost as if embarrassed about it. I laughed at his embarrassment unsure why he would think I wouldn’t want too. “Yes, we can match.” I said looking at him with kind eyes. He smiled and left the room for what I assumed to be matching outfits. He came out with two hats, two black t-shirts, Two black pants, and some boots. “Do you mind black? It’s the only color I have in my closet.” He said handing them to me. I shook my head and put the clothes on, smiling as I looked over at him basically seeing myself. He smiled as well before throwing me a pair of black shades and putting his own pair on. We both stood in the mirror looking at ourselves and each other. I went to go turn my head, but Mark quickly threw my hair over my shoulders. “Come on let’s get going before it gets too late.” He said grabbing and pulling me to leave. I sighed as I allowed myself to get pulled along with him. As we headed out I could swear this boiler room was familiar but pushed the thought away. I decided that I was probably a bit hazy from the fall.

Soon enough we made it to the park and started walking the trail. It was pretty dark outside and I wondered how late it was, before I asked Mark answered, “1AM.” He said, not even looking me in the eyes. This now confused me, when we were at the diner it was already late and we finished the show, so why did we go back to work? Had I fallen that hard that I’m messing up time? Yet I feel so sure that what I remembered is what happened.
