{Savannah's POV}
I still couldn't believe she was gone. It just didn't make any sense. It was one stupid party. I told her not to go, we all did, even if it was no point. Violet always found a way to sneak out and get back in before her parents found out.
The only people who went with her were Michael and Grace. They would have to know at least something.
Class seemed to take years until it finally ended. I wanted to run to Michael's locker, but decided against it afraid that I'd trip and cause attention towards me. He was there with his shoulders slumped as he put something out of his locker.
"Hey," I said once I made it to him.
"Oh, hi," he said weakly smiling at me.
"You on your way to lunch?" I asked, even though I knew that him and I were the only ones who had lunch out of our group of friends that day.
"Yeah, wanna come?" He asked me as he closed his locker. I nodded my head as I followed him to his car.
Once we got in the car I decided to ask him about the party.
"Um, Michael what happened at the party?"
"Nothing," he answered quickly.
"I mean, with Violet. Like what'd she do?"
"Look, I don't know, okay? I didn't pay attention to her."
"But I thought you guys left out together because-"
"Savannah, I don't know," he said gripping the steering wheel.
I decided against asking any other questions. I really didn't like making him upset. I didn't like making anyone upset, really.
We arrived at McDonald's ten minutes later. He didn't say anything to me when we got out of the car. After we were siting at a booth for two minutes I decided to speak up.
"I'm sorry for making you upset," I sighed.
He shrugged his shoulders.
"I was just wondering if you knew anything about what happened."
"Savannah I don't want to talk about it, okay?"
"Michael, you're going to have to talk about it sooner or later you know. I'm pretty sure cops will need witnesses. It'll be all over the news today, tomorrow, and for a while," I said as I watched him put his head in his hands.
"I know that," he mumbled.
"Well, if you know that, why can't you just tell me what you remember, Michael?"
"Because I don't want to," he said finally looking at me. "And I don't have to."
He stood up and walked out the back door. I sighed and slumped in my chair. Before I could even finish throwing out the trash I heard a car door slam. I quickly threw everything out and ran outside. He was already pulling out.
"Michael!" I yelled. "What're you doing?"
He didn't even look my direction before pulling out fully and driving off.
"Are you kidding me?" I muttered to myself.
It was a ten minute drive, but it would be a twenty minute walk, and our lunch period ended in almost five minutes. We had lost track of time, ugh.
I began the walk back to the school. I was trying my best not to be anymore late than I already was. Just as I was about to cross the street I heard my name being called.
I looked towards the sound and saw Luke siting on a stoop.
"What're you doing here?" I asked as I walked over to him. "I thought you were at school."
"I left out before it started. I was still pretty over whelmed by the whole Violet thing, I guess," he said looking at the road.
I weakly smiled at him before siting next to him.
"What're you doing here?" He asked looking at me finally with an eyebrow raised.
"Got ditched," I said deciding not to say by who.
"By Michael?"
"What? How'd you-"
"Saw his car speeding off from the same way you came. I just put two and two together."
I nodded my head staring down the block from where I just walked.
"Oh, my God! I forgot! I'm gonna be late!" I nearly yelled jumping up startling Luke.
"For what?" He asked, clueless.
"For school! What else?"
"Oh," he muttered like he had just realized it too. "Want a ride?"
"Please?" I looked down at my phone. It was already seven minutes into the next class.
Luke ran inside before coming out seconds later with a car key in his hand. I followed him to the car parked on the street.
"Put your seat belt on luke, jeez," I scolded.
"Sorry for trying to get you to school fast," he joked.
"What about safety?"
"Whatever." He stated as he stopped at a red light to put his seat belt on.
I had made it to school twenty minutes into class.
"Thanks," I said to Luke.
"No problem. I'll go in with you so you don't get in trouble a lone."
I groaned as we walked up to the building.
We walked in quickly trying to pass the security guard before they noticed us.
"Excuse me?"
I internally groaned but turned around to the guy.
"You're a students here, right?"
"Yeah," Luke said blankly.
"Why're you guys late?"
"Long story," Luke said.
I looked away from the security guard and started staring at the clock which seemed to go slower.
"Not too long for the principle to hear," he said.
I looked back at him with wide eyes. My parents would kill me for this.
"It was my fault, she doesn't have to go, you know," Luke said gesturing his hands towards me.
"You were both late. You both are going to go to the principles office. Go," the guy said.
Luke and I stood still.
"Now," he yelled.
We jumped slightly scared of his sudden out burst. We walked quickly to the principles office.
"I'm scared," I said.
"Don't be. I'm right here."
Luke grabbed the door knob and twisted it and walked in. I followed closely behind him.
"Hello," the principle, Mr. Giordano (Mr.G) said with a smile.
"Hi," Luke said. "Um, we came in late."
"Why?"
"There was lots and lots of traffic out there," Luke lied. It sounded like he was telling the truth. He said it so naturally as if it actually did happen.
"So?"
"So I think you should let us off the hook this time."
"What's your names?"
"I'm Luke. Luke Hemmings," he said before nudging me with his shoulder.
"Oh, Savannah."
"Last name?" He said almost annoyed.
"Sorry, Savannah Walker," I said quietly.
"Luke? You were not here all day. Why not?"
He didn't say anything. I knew why. My voice seemed to be gone making it hard for me to speak for him.
"You're both getting a call home."
