I woke up this morning to see a bit of a snowfall outside my window. It hasn't snowed in a while, which I was happy to see it again. The snow is comforting in a way, even if a little cold. It isn't rare to get snow near our hideout, but I was happy nonetheless.
I didn't bother putting on my uniform, I was way too tired to do so at the moment, so I threw on my bath robe and some pants. I walked out with messy, uncombed hair and a droopy look on my face. I sat down at my chair in the dining area and layed my head down.
"You're certainly up early."
I quickly panned my head behind me and saw Yüka dressed and ready, allbeit with a little bit of stray hairs seeping through her bun.
"Ah, I couldn't go back to sleep," I said, leaning back in my chair.
"It's only six.. I was expecting you to sleep in longer. Would you like some breakfast since you're up, sir?"I could feel as if she smiled behind her mask. She got a bit closer and tilted her head, waiting for my response. I paused for a moment, blanking out, but responded a few seconds later.
"Yes, I really enjoyed your cooking yesterday. I'll have those biscuit things again, please and thank you, Missy," I scruffed her head.
"I'll get on that now! I'm glad you enjoy my cooking, sir!"Again, I felt that weird sensation as I did yesterday. Maybe it is new emotions I'm feeling because of my interactions with the opposite sex like Sooga said. I'll just keep telling myself it's hormones from now on if that is the case. Honestly, I thought it was gas, but I guess I was wrong.
I heard the dining room doors slide open and slide shut. Sooga was dressed and ready, unlike myself. He stood next to me, silent as a rock. I hated silence, so I broke it by starting a conversation.
"Hey, lad. Did'ja get any good sleep last night?" I asked, patting his back.
"Yes, sir. I had pleasant dreams last night," He nodded, folding his hands and bowing.
"You don't have to do that sissy crap around me, Sooga. I'm your old man, after all. Not just a boss," I chuckled.
"Apologies," He stood still once more.I heard the kitchen doors burst open, and there she was; a hot plate of biscuits and gravy right in her hands. Except her hands had oven mittens on.
"It's finished, sir! I hope you like it!" She set my plate down, "Would you like coffee with that?"
"No thanks. I hate coffee."
"I do too, actually!" She got a little closer, her chest squishing against the table once more.I looked at her with a flustered look under my mask, as she got a little closer than usual.
"Y-You do?" I stuttered.
"It just taste so bland and nasty, in my opinion. I'm glad I know someone else who doesn't like it!" She smiled, tilting her head.
"Good for us?" I honestly still regret phrasing my reply that way.She got a little closer to me and set her chest down closer on the table, her arms folded in front of it, looking up at me. I could kinda tell she was smiling under her mask too, and I could feel my cheeks redden.
"Wha'd you want?" I shouldn't of said it like that..
"Nothin', sir. Just trying to make small talk," She tilted her head a little.
"Why?" I asked, generally confused.
"I wanna get to know you! Aren't we friends?" She set one arm down and her other hand had her left cheek rest on it.My heart stopped. Friends? I've never really had a friend before, let alone a friend of the opposite sex. I was very flattered, my ears perking up a bit when I heard her say that one little word. Good thing she couldn't see the dorky smile under my mask, or else I would of died right there on the spot.
"F-Friends?" I looked back at Sooga for help.
"Go on!" Sooga whispered.
"Mhm! Why, since you've been such a sweetheart, I figured we'd make really good friends!" She giggled.
"Really? You sure you wouldn't wanna be friends with the hundreds of other footsoldiers or blademasters? My men may look tough on the outside, but they have good hearts," I said, trying to weasl out of the conversation.
"Nope! Sure, they are nice, but you're more my speed!"
"Your... Speed?" I tilted my head, "Is that some sort of slang I'm not understanding?"
"Well uh.. If I said it a different way, you wouldn't really like that," She scratched the back of her head.
"Ok then. Continue," I folded my hands, ready to listen.
