The Manfred family wasn't exactly close. (Y/N) always being busy with exams at her university, only usually seeing her father, and Leo always being high on red ice. The two aren't close in age either, but then again, a 4-year age gap isn't that bad between siblings. Well, half-siblings. (Y/N) was the closer one to their father; her being the one he had met when she was a baby, her mother didn't want to take care of her. So, he took her in as his daughter. You would've thought he had learned his lesson already since Leo, but funnily enough, he didn't until (Y/N) came around.
Today was the day (Y/N) finally graduated, but only Carl, her father, was coming to see her. Leo was nowhere to be found, as usual. Probably off snorting red ice somewhere again. (Y/N)'s eyes skimmed through the crowd, looking for her father. He had told her that he was on the way, but it's been around 20 minutes already since he called. Her eyes furrowed with worry. Suddenly, her phone started ringing in the middle of the ceremony. Answering, a robotic voice spoke.
"Is this Ms. Manfred? Your father, Carl Manfred, got into an accident. This is an Android Model AZ600 calling from LK Detroit Medical Center."
With a shaky voice, (Y/N) replied, "W-What? No, that can't be. I'm sorry, where did you say it was again?" She said in a panicked manner, "LK Detroit Medical Center, Ms. Manfred." Without even replying, she hung up.
Not even caring about the graduation at hand, (Y/N) quickly runs out of the place, ignoring the calls of her name and going into a taxi that takes her to the hospital. "Listen, Taxi, you may be automatic, but please hit the gas if you even have any." She spoke in a hurried tone. Several messages blew up on her phone, and a few of her peers even called. Soon, the taxi door opened. She ran, asking the android receptionist where her father's room was. "VIP Room 7, Floor 43." The male android responded, staring at the woman with not a single emotion in his eyes.
"Thank you," (Y/N) rushed to the elevator, mashing the call button. Thankfully, it was an express elevator due to how many floors the hospital had. The elevator arrived at the ground floor, only taking a minute. Stepping into the elevator, she clicked the button for floor 43, waiting anxiously for the elevator doors to open. As soon as they did, she booked it for room 7, her eyes scanning the glowing numbers that were beside the wooden doors. Quickly finding it, she opened the door. Seeing her father in the hospital bed, sleeping peacefully in bed. (Y/N) let out a sigh of relief. The faint sound of the monitors beeping filled the room.
"Ms. Manfred?" The nurse behind her spoke. "Will he be okay?" She asked worriedly. "He was hit by a speeding truck. Driven by a rogue android, I heard," She answered, "He isn't in critical condition, but his legs are severely damaged. He's incredibly lucky that the upper half of his body wasn't damaged that badly, but we believe that he may not be able to walk after this." "I'm... sorry, Ms. Manfred." (Y/N) shook her head in response, "Please, don't be, it's not your fault. I'm just glad he's alive." She sighed, "Is there anything we can do to possibly fix his legs?" (Y/N) held the limp hand of her father softly, "Dr. Moore is still looking into that, Ms. Manfred." (Y/N) nods in response, "I'll leave you two alone, for now. Please just press the button if you need me." (Y/N) stared at Carl's face, realizing that she hadn't checked her phone since she left, and they also definitely didn't contact Leo. She quickly pulled out her phone, seeing the amount of notifications that blew up her phone, and responded to a few messages from her close friends. She also messaged her head teacher about the accident and asked if it was possible to delay the ceremony for a little while. After that, (Y/N) called Leo about what happened, but he didn't answer. (Y/N) could only hope that her dad would get better.

> (Y/N)'s Chapter
A few weeks passed, and ever since Dad's accident, I've been visiting the hospital every day. I found out from Dr. Moore last week that Dad becoming a paraplegic was inevitable.
"Is there nothing that we can do??" I asked. Tears threatened to fall, but I held it in.
"I'm very sorry, Ms. Manfred. We've done all we could."
Surprisingly, Leo was kind enough to show up to my delayed graduation since Dad wasn't able to.
I was headed to my dad's hospital room right now, walking at a calm pace. Opening the door, I was greeted by an unexpected visitor. Two unexpected visitors. "Mr. Kamski? What are you doing here?" I asked as I closed the door behind me. "(Y/N), it's good to see you again," he said, giving me a polite smile. "I'm sorry for what happened to your father. I'm here to give a little gift." I eyed the android that stood perfectly still in the corner of the room. "Is it him?" I asked, pointing at the android jokingly. "Yes. I thought it might help take care of you and Carl. If I recall, you two don't have an android, right?"
Okay, I didn't expect him to be serious.
I nod my head slowly. "That's right." Suddenly, dad woke up. "You're awake!" I pressed the button that was beside the hospital bed, notifying the nurse and Dr. Moore. "How do you feel, Dad?" I questioned him, worriedly holding his hand. "Hello, Carl. It's been a while." Mr. Kamski spoke. Soon, Dr. Moore came into the room, along with the nurse. "Mr. Manfred, can you speak?" He asks patiently, "Y-Yes." "Okay, what's the last thing you remember yourself doing?" "I... I was on the way to (Y/N)'s graduation ceremony." He spoke slowly but clearly. "Claire, could you check his vitals?"
Claire nods and checks carefully. "All of his vitals are normal, Doctor. Stable blood pressure and heartbeat," she says, still looking through carefully. Dr. Moore nods at this. "(Y/N), I'm sorry. I wasn't able to attend your graduation," Dad said with sadness in his voice. "Dad, no, it's okay. I'm just glad you're alright." I smiled softly at him.

Five days had passed, and Dad got discharged from the hospital. Mr. Kamski introduced the new android to us, his name being Markus, and he was a model specifically for taking care of housework, errands, and, of course, Dad. We were at home now, and we sat in the living room. I was watching Dad and Markus play a slow game of chess, with Markus' LED blinking yellow but turning back to blue due to Dad asking me a question.
"So, (Y/N), you're really set on becoming a detective, huh?" Dad asked with a curious look on his face. "Of course, Dad. You know I've wanted this since I was a child, ever since the world turned into this mess. Though, your talent did pass onto me, so if I don't go this path, then I guess there's another route?" I held up my hand to my mouth and laughed at the thought. "I'm sure you'd be able to pull it off, (Y/N)," Markus replied, smiling softly at the both of us.
"Yeah, yeah, don't feed my ego now."
