We all went back into the living room to finish off the film and even though Paddy wasn’t there I still squashed up to William whilst Biba sat in Paddy’s original seat to give us more room.
“You can move up a bit Jess, there’s plenty of room.” Biba said whilst giving me a fake smile. She was purposely trying to embarrass me and make me feel awkward.
I simply replied with “Oh so there is.”
This time there was no pillow and our display of affection was public-well to Biba at least. We also began playing footsie with one another. Normally I’d feel awkward acting like this in front of someone else as I’d fear that they would feel like they’re a third wheel however Biba invited Paddy over without my permission and has got me to meet up with just her and Paddy on a handful of occasions so I didn’t feel the slightest bit guilty!
She deserved it after what she’s put me through with that guy! The film finished dead on ten to twelve which meant unfortunately William had to go home. We got up and each put on our coats and shoes and left the house.
Once I had finally managed to lock the door (it was pitch black and I could hardly see) we began walking down the lamp post lit pathway. Biba was originally in the middle until William silently trailed behind a few steps so that he could come to my right hand side.
When the line had formed again he reached in my coat pocket for my hand and locked his fingers tightly with mine and gave a reassuring squeeze. We came to a park near Biba’s and the path outside it had different coloured pavement slabs.
“I wonder if I can jump the whole thing…” Biba said whilst examining the length of it. “Well only one way to find out!”
She made it to about two thirds of the way-bless her little legs!
“I know I can easily!” William said as he let go of my hand. He almost looked like he was flying through the air, and he gracefully landed almost a metre away from the original coloured pavement.
“You’re just a show off!” Biba said bitterly.
I didn’t even attempt it and not just because I was in a skirt. I just knew how clumsy I was and thought I’d save myself the embarrassment. We continued walking to Biba’s house and as we walked into the kitchen Biba said she needed to pop upstairs to talk to her Mum.
Later I found out she was trying to give me a window of opportunity to kiss him but at the time I was naïve and thought she genuinely wanted to talk to her Mum. She must have been gone for about five minutes in this time William found his pre-rolled cigarette and went to smoke it outside whilst I stood in the kitchen texting my Mum to let her know everything was fine and to update her on the William situation.
My Mum is my best friend we can talk about anything and everything – I even explained the Peter (ex-boyfriend) incident to her, which most teenagers would find awkward to talk about to their Mum.
When Biba came down she said it was time to leave and yelled goodbye to William as she walked past him in the garden- this hint I did get. She’d left without waiting for me to put my shoes back on so that I could say goodbye to William properly. I put my shoes on in the kitchen and walked to the back door which led to the garden; William was stood in the door way.
“Well it was lovely meeting you! I hope you have a safe journey to your Grandparents and enjoy quad biking.”
“Thank you I’m sure I will.” He said whilst extending his arms out towards me and wrapped them tightly round my waist.
I locked my arms around his neck and rested my head on his chest and as I slowly pulled away I looked up at him and smiled; he still held me at this point and ever so slightly I tilted my head to give him the okay. He bent down and I went slightly on my tip toes to reach him, and in that moment our lips pressed lightly together. Despite it being a cold night his lips were warm and gentle and in that fraction of a second I got that flutter of butterflies again.
“Goodbye Jess, I’ll see you soon.” He whispered.
