The First Task

The schools were summoned to watch the first task in a small arena just outside of Hogwarts. I was worried - no, I was terrified. My brother was going to have to face a dragon and collect a golden egg that it guarded. I only hoped that the dragon would be soft on him. He was much younger than the other champions, and I feared that they would be better at their tasks than him.

I stood next to Matteo at the arena. He looked at me with compassion.

"I don't like to see you worry so much." He said.

"Well, that's too bad." I said. "My brother has to face a dragon and I can't help him. No one can."

He looked down at the stony arena below. "We can hope his dragon is the Swedish Short-Snout, the yellow one. It's the softest one they've got."

"How do you know so much about this?" I asked him.

He just smiled deviously.

I was numb watching the first three champions collect their golden eggs. I could only think about what Harry was thinking about, sitting in the tent for champions, wondering what he was actually going to do.

His anxiety was mine, and I was feeling it massively now.

"Here he is." Matteo said, crossing his arms as he watched.

The crowd cheered for my brother as he walked out, and then all went silent. Harry spotted the egg, and the dragon made itself known. It was a Hungarian Horntail. The most vicious and hostile dragon up for grabs.

It swung its tail at him, and I grabbed onto Matteo's arm, covering my mouth in horror. Harry was fine. And Harry was going to be alright.

He dodged the fiery breath of the dragon, and raised his wand, saying a spell that I didn't hear. It didn't seem to do anything, though...

After a while of escaping the dragon, Harry's broom appeared and he hopped on. That was his strength - flying a broomstick. I let go of Matteo's arm, realising that everyone was able to see us here.

Suddenly, Harry flew up and the strong dragon broke free of its chains. It was on the loose now, and it was after my brother. Harry noticed this and flew out of the arena, causing the dragon's spiky tail to tear through one of the sheltering fabrics over the spectators. They all screamed, but I didn't see anyone get hurt. I watched as Harry flew out of sight, towards the castle, the dragon right on his tail.

"Oh my god," I muttered, staring at the sky in disbelief. "Oh my god."

"Hey, it's gonna be okay." Matteo said, trying to reassure me. "You saw him, he's a good flyer."

"It's only the first task, I thought that he would at least be able to survive the first task." I said, ignoring his comforting words.

"All we can do is wait for him to return." He said. Now his face was inspecting mine. I looked into his eyes as he spoke; completely truthful. "He's going to be alright."
