"I guess we're not going to be spending any time together this summer?"

The words hit Leah before she even fully opened her eyes. She knew she had received a text message because she heard her notification go off.  Rolling to her side she picked up her phone smiling assuming it was from Parker telling her what an amazing day he'd had with her the previous day.

What she didn't expect was this blunt text from her best friend Toni.

Laying the phone back on the table, Leah rolled onto her back and sighed. She was spending a lot of time with Parker and hadn't really seen Toni in the last few days.  She squeezed her eyes shut hoping for a few more minutes of sleep, but the sun was already peeking through her curtains so she knew sleep wouldn't come.

Her bare feet felt good on the wooden floor as she wrapped her robe around her and headed to her bathroom for a shower. She was used to surfing every day, but for some reason today her muscles felt tight.

"It has to be from all the laughing" smiling as she passed her mirror, she remembered the previous day spent with Parker. They had surfed, shared jokes, laughed at each other's antics and played in the sand like they were small children. But what brought the biggest smile to Leahs face was remembering the kisses.

They weren't the usual kisses she'd received from other boys she dated. The kind that made her feel like they were trying to eat her lips or suck her tongue out of her mouth. Parkers kisses felt sweet, almost innocent. He caught her when she wasn't expecting it. Like when she was making the sandcastle and she looked up and caught him watching her like she was creating a masterpiece.

"What? You're staring at me?

"No, I'm appreciating your skills."

Leah grabbed a handful of sand to toss at Parker but he grabbed her hand mid-air. She tried tugging her hand back but only resulted in pulling him closer, close enough to land a kiss that caused Leah to jerk back.

"I'm sorry," Parker looked hurt thinking Leah didn't want him to kiss her but the hurt was replaced immediately with a smile when Leah landed the sand that was still in her hand on his legs.

"Warn a girl before you go for the lips next time."

"Ok, going for the lips," Parker grabbed Leah's hand again, but his time pulled her whole body to him. He looked in her eyes for a brief second before bringing his mouth to her lips. His kiss was none-invasive yet her whole mind filled with it.

Parker smelled like the ocean, his skin was gritty from the sand they were laying in, but Leah didn't care as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Their lips were soft on each other's, no tongue involved. Leah opened her eyes to see Parker looking at her, she felt his lips turn into a grin and she broke away.

"Why were you looking at me?"

"Why were you looking at me?"

"I wasn't."

"Then how did you know I was looking at you?"

"Ugh, let's get back into the water." Leah tried to sound serious, but really, she just needed a little space between her and the boy that was making her stomach do somersaults.  How could a simple kiss make her feel this much?

Toni! Leah's mind returned to this morning's text as the warm water ran down her back. She needed to call her and set up some time to see her today.  She loved spending time with Parker, but she loved her bestie time as well.

"Ok, today will be Toni day." Leah washed her hair and jumped out of the shower quickly, drying off and getting dressed before grabbing the phone to call her best friend.
