The sun shines down on you
and your hair glows like liquid chocolate
although it usually is pitch black
like the dark that haunts me at night
when you come in my room to comfort me.

You pass me daisies and guide my hands
while I braid two flowercrowns;
a big one for you and a smaller one for me,
although they will be forgotten as soon as
you take me with you to the kitchen to
help you bake a cake for daddy's birthday.

Proudly, you pat my back,
placing a kiss on my head and
telling me how proud you are.
Although you tell me almost every day,
I hold this feeling close to my heart.

You stand and pick me up to bring me inside
and I curl up in your safe arms
because I know that you'll hold me
whenever I need you, mummy.
