Tom and Olivia walk to his car in silence. He opens the passenger side door for her, making her slightly blush as she quietly thanks him, before getting into the drivers seat himself. He starts the car and turns on the radio before starting the drive.
Olivia sits in the car quietly, confused about why she had left with Tom in the first place. The look on his face had just made the her say yes before thinking. She pulled on the sleeves of her hoodie as she looked out the window silently. She drops her gaze to her Converse as Tom pulls up to a McDonalds drive-through.
"What do you want to eat?" he asks, looking at Olivia, admiring her in the dark.
"Oh. I'm good, thanks" she says quietly, picking at her nails as she feels Tom looking at her. Tom sighs silently as he rolls down the window before placing their order. They wait in line silently, the radio playing quietly in the background. Tom pays and takes the food, handing it to Olivia and she holds it while he drives for a bit, stopping once they get to a quiet parking lot at the edge of a cliff that overlooks Brooklyn. Olivia gasps as she looks out the window. The sunset looks beautiful from up here. She's still mesmerized as Tom takes the food bags from her lap, handing her a chocolate milkshake and nuggets, making her frown.
"You didn't need to get me anything" she mutters quietly, feeling embarrassed.
"I wanted to" Tom smiles, taking a sip out of his milkshake. Olivia swallows hard as she lets her eyes roam over Tom when she thinks he doesn't notice. She feels her cheeks blush as his eyes turn to hers, making her drop her gaze as she takes a sip of her milkshake, not wanting to be rude.
"So... What do you do? Like... For a living" Tom asks her as he opens his box of nuggets and takes a bite out of one, all of his attention on her.
"I'm still studying" she says quietly, keeping her answer short. She didn't want to bore him with details of her life.
"What do you study?" he asks, making Olivia pull on the sleeves of her hoodie again nervously.
"Nursing" she breathes out, keeping her gaze at her fingers.
"That's a tough major" he says as he eats his food.
"Yeah, I guess" Olivia says as she slowly opens her box of nuggets and takes a bite out of one.
"Why do you want to become a nurse?" he asks. Olivia furrows her brows. Why would he care?
"I want to help people, I guess" she mutters, giving him a generic answer.
"Thats a good reason" he smiles to himself as he sees Olivia eating. He knew Rachel had been worried about her not eating.
"It's not what I want to do, though" Olivia says quietly, feeling a bit more relaxed in his company already.
"What do you want to do?" he asks, studying Olivia as she eats and avoids his gaze.
"I want to write" she says shyly, blushing at her confession.
"That's amazing" Tom says, fighting back the urge to grab her hand. Tom smiles as he turns up the radio.
"I love this song!" he exclaims, singing along to The Maine, terribly. But he feels his heart skip a beat when he hears Olivia laughing.
"I know, I suck at singing" he laughs, feeling proud that he'd made her laugh. Olivia bites back a smile. She looks down at her lap and realizes she'd eaten all of her nuggets.
"I should probably take you back before Rachel murders me for stealing you away for too long" Tom mutters as they clean up their trash into one of the food bags. They drive back while listening to music. Tom asks Olivia more questions, and she answers them all shyly, making him giggle internally at how adorable he thinks she is.
"Thanks, Tom. I had a good time" Olivia smiles shyly as he stops in front of her and Rachel's apartment.
"Me too" he smiles as Olivia opens the car door.
"Olivia?" he speaks up, making her turn her gaze to him. His heart skips a beat as he looks into her beautiful eyes.
"I'll see you soon, yeah?" he asks, fighting the urge to pull her back in and kiss her.
"Yeah" she smiles before getting out of the car.
Olivia heads back inside and is immediately pulled in for a questioning from Rachel.
"What did you guys talk about?" she asks as they lay down on Olivia's bed.
"Just... School" she says, frowning at Rachel's enthusiasm.
"You like him?" Rachel asks casually, making Olivia frown as she turns to look at Rachel.
"He's nice" she just says, making Rachel roll her eyes as she stands up.
"Maybe I'll get more answers out of Tom" she mutters as she walks out of Olivia's room.
And for the first time in months, Olivia falls asleep with a smile on her face and a boy with brown hair and blue eyes on her mind.
