For someone who's dying, MC seemed pretty happy. Even as Mammon held their body close, begging them not to die. "Don't you dare die!" He'd say. Maybe happy wasn't the right word. More.. content. They had freed Belphegor. They helped him, just like they wanted. They brought the brothers back together. Even though it ended in Belphie doing this to them...
Well, they had to admit that he had been kind of a jerk about it. But it was done now. It couldn't be undone anymore. They got what they wanted... What more could they ask for? Well.. maybe being able to see their human friends one more time. Their family. That would make everything better.
Mammon's arms tightened around their waist. "You're gonna be okay." His voice was hoarse and strained with emotion. He sounded angry at himself for being so emotional. But, then again, MC was dying. It didn't matter. As long as he had them, MC was fine. "I'll bring you home. I'll convince Lord Diavolo. We'll see your friends. We can watch some TV, or do whatever humans do." Mammon pulled away slightly, enough to look into their eyes.
Their breathing was shallow, an unsteady rhythm. He leaned forward, trying to find any signs of life left on their face. There was nothing. Not even their eyelids fluttered. Mammon looked away quickly, trying to blink away tears.
He knew how much they meant to him. How much he loved them. Did they know? Probably. He always knew he was rather obvious, despite his denial. And he knew that MC was well aware of that, too. Still, they never said anything. They didn't tease him about it. They were sweet like that. "I love you, MC..." His voice cracked while saying their name. He cleared his throat, trying to regain control over his emotions. He tried to ignore the pain. The pain of losing someone so close to him. Losing MC. Who else would have understood him? Who else would have listened to him without judging him? Without making fun of him? Of course, MC hadn't made fun of him yet, but that was because they were MC. And he loved them for that. For giving him the chance to try.
...But it didn't matter. They were gone. Dead. And it hurt. It hurt so much. The words stuck in his throat, and he couldn't say them out loud. No one would understand anyway. So he kept quiet, trying not to cry while holding MC against him, and hoping he could hold onto them just a little bit longer.
He couldn't.
So much angst, LOL. Am in a very angst mood rn, oops.
