The gasp was loud and desperate. "Louise..." I slowly began to crawl over to her, my hands shaking. "Louise are you okay?" Her eyes were still closed but she was gasping heavily drawing in as much air as she possibly could, over and over again. I pulled her head into my lap. She still hadn't opened her eyes or attempted to move her body, and I don't blame her. Coming back from the dead cannot be a very pleasant process. "I've got you Louise, I'm here." I began stroking her bangs from her face, my fingers gently brushed down her cheek. I was surprised to see that Harry had not yet moved. Then again, he must be in shock. The cave went silent other than her heavy breathing.
We all sat there staring at her, praying that her breathing didn't just stop again. Finally her eyes began to twitch and then fluttered open. "H-haylee..." Her voice was raspy and deep, and she sounded really dehydrated. I felt a tear flutter down my cheek as she blinked slowly, her own eyes water-filled. As she gathered her surroundings Harry began to move closer to us. I heated up my hands hoping to keep her warm. "I... I failed..." she breathed out.
"No, no Louise. It was a lost fight from the start. It's okay, Harry is safe, we are sort of safe. Try not to talk too much okay?" I sniffled as more tears fell slowly down my cheeks. "I thought we had lost you Louise..." She went to speak again but I shook my head. "Build up your energy." I leaned down and placed a soft kiss against her head before handing her into Harry's arms. I stood up and began to walk to the cave entrance. Both Dan and Beau followed almost straight away, giving Harry and Louise some time alone. Especially since Harry would have been the one to truly lose her. I leaned against the cold cave wall and watched as the sun peeped through the tree leaves.
"What are we going to do once she has the strength to move? They're obviously going to come after us right?" The voice belonged to Beau, but for some reason it sounded distant. I couldn't answer him, because I honestly didn't know. Instead I just continued to stare silently out at the trees, letting the cold breeze dry up the trail left from my tears.
"They won't come for us." Dan replied, although I could tell he wasn't talking directly to Beau, as I could feel his gaze on my face, or specifically my eyes. Part of me wondered what he was looking at or for, but then part of me knew. Tears. He didn't want to see me cry. Beau on the other hand didn't seem to mind very much...
"I wasn't asking you." Beau snapped at him.
"Weren't you? Well too bad, I answered." Dan replied without even the slightest hint of anger.
I heard Beau take in a deep, sharp breath, like he normally would when he was about to yell at someone. "Enough." I cut him off before he could start shouting. I wiped at my cheeks and turned to face them both. "Fighting isn't what we need right now. Especially between two of my favourite people." The words had escaped. And I knew I shouldn't have categorized Dan as one of my favourite people in front of Beau. It wouldn't help their situation. But I wasn't going to lie to myself. I liked Dan. A lot. "You guys have issues, I get it. Beau, you're jealous. Dan, you're just... I don't even know. But you can settle those issues when we don't have a bigger issue staring us straight in the fucking face. I've had enough of you getting at his throat Beau. Do you not realize with out him I would be dead? We probably all would. And now he is on the run too, simply for helping us. He saved all of our asses and put his own in danger for us. So stop with the grudges and jealousy. It is seriously pissing me off. There is no need for it! My best friend was just brought back from the dead! I just saved you from sudden death. My boy... My friend saved us all." Crap, did I just nearly call Dan my boyfriend? "I don't care what issues you have between each other, but can you please, just please, put them on hold for 5 freaking minutes?!" They both looked at me with wide eyes. It wasn't often I raised my voice, or swore, or confronted people, but we had bigger issues at hand. "Dan, what do you mean they aren't going to come for us?"
