I slowly opened my eyes and looked around a bit. So it wasn't a dream. I'm not in my comfy little home in Main. I'm still on this hard and very uncomfortable bed. I sighed and sat up, hitting my head on the top bunk, "ow!!" I rubbed the top of my head which eased the pain a bit. I heard laughter from next to me and I quickly turned my head only to see little Dallas looking at me with a sweet smile, "hehehe, are you okay Mabel?" I smiled a bit, "yeah. I'm okay. My head just hurts a bit from ya know. Bumping it." I said laughing a bit. She sat down next to me on the bed, her head not even close to touching the top of the bunk. She looked at me and tilted her head a bit, "How old are you ms. Mabel?"

I answered with a smile, "I'm 17. What about you Dallas?" She rocked back and fourth, "11...". To think, an 11 year old caught up in this mess...children shouldn't be able to grow up like this. This is all so terrible...I spoke up, "ooh, 11? That's pretty young. You've gotta lot of life ahead of you. So be sure to live it to the fullest okay?" She looked down at her feet, "Life? This isn't life anymore. It's like we are all living in a nightmare. My best friend was killed by a Usyless...so was most of my family...all I have is my mom.." what she said shocked me. My heart started to pound loudly and I didn't realize that I was crying until Dallas looked up at me and wiped away my tears, "Dont cry Mabel. That's the last thing we need. Besides, I'll protect you. So don't cry. I won't let you die." She smiled sweetly and hugged me gently. She's going to protect me....? She's so nice, "that's sweet and all Dallas but...I'm the one who should be protecting you." I smiled and she looked up at me, "No. We both need to protect each other."
