Chapter 8- Library Encounter

Alex was very surprised when she saw what popped up on the screen. What did the system mean by soulmate and how the heck was she supposed to find that person?

She was tired and didn't have energy for anymore stress. She walked upstairs to her room. After she had changed her uniform to a more comfortable wear, she walked downstairs, super hungry.

Her mom wasn't in the kitchen so she guessed that she was in her room. Her mom prohibited Alex to enter her room. It was her workplace. Her mom walked online though Alex had no idea what exactly she did.

Her mom recently got this weird job where she was never at home at night and was always in front of her laptop.

Her mom never told what it was about only saying that it was a secret job for the government.

Alex walked over to the fridge where she saw some leftover food. She heated it up and sat down to eat it while thinking about this system thing.

Alex sat at a secluded part, in the comfort of the school library reading a classic romance novel. It was lunch time but Alex would rather sit in this deserted library than at the cafeteria. This was her favorite place in the school building apart from the school garden. She could escape her worries and find peace in the comfort of the books she read.

Not far from where she sat, Ashton was leaning against a book shelf flipping through the pages of a physics textbook, his eyes taking in the equations and formulas. His eyes left the book and wandered around the library. It rested on the back of Alex who was not far from where he stood. His eyes lingered on her.

As if sensing someone's gaze on her, Alex turned and their eyes met.

Ashton returned the textbook to its shelf and walked to where Alex sat. He sat on the chair next to her.

Alex froze when she realized that he had sat next to her. What did he want with her.

Ashton on the other hand was unbothered. He reached out and took the book Alex was reading. Alex flushed immediately because she was just reading a kissing scene.

"you read this?" Ashton said. His eyes scrutinizing the cover of the book. He opened to the page Alex was reading and read a line out loud.

"'his hands slowly rested on her neck as he explored her lips'" Ashton read a line from the book, an amused look on his face.

"I never knew you read this type of novels." he said as he turned to her. A smirk on his lips, enjoying how flustered Alex was.
Alex had turned beet red at what he said.

"'her hands ran through his hair as he slid his tongue.." he continued but was interrupted by Alex.

" hey! Give it back. "

She tried to take back her book but Ashton moved it away from her grasp when she tried to take it. Alex pouted and crossed her arms over her chest.

" you want this? "

Ashton waved it in front of her and Alex reached out to grab it but was unsuccessful again.

"what do you want, just give it back." Alex said pouting.

Ashton laughed and then finally closed it and put it back on the table. He slid it back to her. He leaned back on his chair as he watch Alex stand up and return the book to its shelf before she came back to sit down.

"what did Charles call you for." Ashton said once she had sat back in the chair. Alex was taken a back by what he said. She looked down and
drew small circles on the table with her fingers before she looked back up at him. Ashton was staring at her with a cold gaze different from the amused expression he had a minute ago.

How did he know about her encounter with Charlie.

"Why will you care." Alex answered.

"just answer the question."  Ashton rested his head on the table still staring at her.

"he wanted me to be his tutor." Alex answered his question and looked away to the other direction scared to meet his gaze while she  played with her hair.

She didn't know why she told him that but she just felt obliged to answer him.

"did you agree." Ashton pressed on.

"yeah." Alex answered still not sure why she was answering him.

Ashton Stood up and walked off without another word which left Alex surprised. She could see that he was pissed off. She bent her head on the table and groaned loudly. Not long after, the bell rang indicating that lung was over. She picked up her things and left heading to her english class.
