Jimin stared emotionless into the wood carvings of the counter after telling his story. It's one he'd expected to tell Yoongi in the future but even with the preparations, it was all new.
He told him how he joined the Private Police, how he realized their corruption and waited for the right time to expose the entire system.
He'd only worked there a a year and a few months but understood the dynamic and took all this time gathering information, he just has to find a way to expose it all.
It was the perfect plan.
"They're cooperation is like a tall building. You see it on the outside, it stands proud and beautiful but the beauty of the tower doesn't matter if the construction is doomed to fail it soon. Inside, the system is so messy and they cut corners to make money. They don't care if they have to jail or kill innocent people. As long as it stays hidden and no one finds out about it. The building won't fall if no one uses it for its intended purpose."
Yoongi stands staring at Jimin's nice suit. He realizes it's the same one he wore the day they met, all presses and cleaned without a single piece of lint to be found. It all seems out of place for this fine looking suit to be here.
"You never answered why you came back." Yoongi reminded him, "or why you turned in your own watch."
Jimin sighed.
"They found out," he said, "They found out I was Con Red. However they wanted to pin the blame on Sa Ghee, a very loud and known activist against the Private Police and government. They're pretending to turn a blind eye when they're really on the hunt for me. Publicly, they'll condemn Sa Ghee to instill fear but privately they'll get rid of me."
Jimin drank the rest of his drink.
"I would take classified information from the police. However, once I read a document that stated they'd stop all search for the current suspect and start the hunt for Sa Ghee. This document never reached the person intended but I realized I didn't feel like someone was watching me 24/7 anymore. That's why I turned in my watch. It obviously has my fingerprints yet they changed the story and forced evidence upon a different person. Except for you of course."
Yoongi stared into his drink which reflected his eyes back at him.
"So this whole time, you've been running around doing work, knowing you will be caught and punished unfairly at the end?" Yoongi asked and Jimin nodded.
Jimin knew he had been being followed and they knew he was stealing money and some secrets they had to rid of a leech while also taking the upper hand.
"I must've caused so much trouble for you. I mean, you don't want to work at a bar all day when you're a respected officer right?" Jimin asked sarcastically but Yoongi didn't answer.
He wanted to answer how an officer should, truthfully. But he also believed his chief and the whole police force. He didn't understand what the truth was anymore.
Jimin frowned when he didn't get a reaction from him.
"Yoongi, you were willing to put those cuffs on me just moments ago. Why the change in attitude? Take me to your chief and all of this will be over."
Yoongi didn't budge.
"I already sent all the documents and information to every publication I could think of. It won't be long before all of their secrets will be out. They'll get scorned and ridiculed. The government will have to step in, their positions taken. They will all be criticized. Thats why I need you to arrest me. My job is done and I wouldn't want anyone else to be the hero."
Jimin slowly stood up and started walking around to the back of the counter. Every step echoed through the room and the floorboards creaked under his weight.
He stood facing Yoongi who wouldn't look at him. Jimin held out his arms as if he was begging to be arrested.
"So if I take you in right now, the police will be exposed?" Yoongi asks.
Jimin nods.
"You will be seen as a hero of the people but you still stole and exploited classified information." Jimin nodded again.
"I am responsible for so many people's misery. I must be punished for that. I don't want anymore innocent people getting involved." Jimin tapped Yoongi with his wrists still hanging out in front of him.
Slowly and hesitantly, Yoongi reached for his back pocket and pulled out his handcuffs.
He grabbed Jimin's wrist before slapping on the cuffs.
Jimin looked up at him and smiled sadly. Yoongi looks right back at him, not clearly understanding this feeling inside. He'd just cuffed the man who's been deceiving him and giving him a hard time for months. Yet there's no gratifying emotion in fact, he very soul feels almost crushed.
And as the metal cuffs closes down on the culprits wrist, with each click, Yoongi sees Jimin's eyes for the first time. He sees not the face of a criminal but of a kind man who was willing to do go through all sacrifices just to do what was right.
Hands now cuffed, Jimin knew that everything he had planned for was coming to an end. The very fact he enjoyed his trials made him sadder because he knew once he left this place, his desire to see Yoongi again would grow. It will break him down to the core to not have anyone to speak about trivial or mundane matters who would listen.
However his legs would not allow him to run no matter how much he urged himself to. He couldn't convince Yoongi to take away the cuffs now.
He knew this was just the beginning of his karma and he was going to take it like a man.
Hiding his sadness in his eyes behind pride, he took a deep breath.
"Take me away, officer."
