Chapter 8 (The Cop and the Convict)

Evening in Los Angeles. Ben walks up to the garage and opens the shutters. As he enters, Froyo wakes up. Ben pets Froyo to calm her down. He then enters the storage room to collect some equipment and a gun. Once he gathered what he needed, he exits the storage room and approaches Layla's car. Just as he was about to get in, the lights turned on. His friends were waiting for him in the kitchen.

Ben: Oh. Hay... dudes.

Kenji: What are you up to Ben?

Ben: Nothing.

Yasmina: Where are you going?

Ben: Nowhere.

Brooklynn: Why have you got all that stuff?

Sammy: And that gun?

Ben: No reason.

Darius: Okay Ben, clearly, you're going to the Nevada facility, and you weren't gonna tell us.

Ben: Fine, I was. But I left a note on the table there.

Kenji: 'Gone to get groceries. Be back soon'. Seriously man?

Brooklynn: Did you not think we'd get suspicious that you'd be gone for a while just for groceries?

Ben: Well, I was hoping to be already in Nevada by the time you found out.

Sammy: Why are you doing this?

Ben: Because it was my fault they got their hands on Wu's research, so I have to make this right. And I wasn't gonna put you guys in any further danger. So, I'm going, and you can't stop me.

Ben gets in the car and tries to start the car. However, it would not start. He then gets out the car.

Ben: Alright, what'd you guys do?

Yasmina: Me and Brooklynn took some important parts out of the engine.

Yaz shows Ben a bowl full of components. Ben takes the bowl, walks to the front of the car and opens the bonnet.

Ben: Where's the engine?

Brooklynn: Round back.

Ben moves to the back of the car and opens the engine. He stands there looking confused.

Kenji: Dude, do you even know what you're doing.

Ben: Of course I do.

Yasmina: Okay, what's this piece?

Ben: Uh, a fuse?

Yasmina: It's a spark plug. What about this one?

Ben: A funnel?

Yasmina: It's an air filter.

Darius: Ben, why do you feel you have to do this yourself?

Ben: Because you guys have already been through enough.

Brooklynn: And you haven't?

Kenji: We've been in dangerous situations before, and we've always prevailed.

Sammy: Have you leaned nothing from Nublar? We're stronger together.

Ben: This is different from Nublar or Mantahcorp island. The stakes are a lot hight, and the chances of survival are a lot lower.

Brooklynn: And how do you think they'll be if you go it alone?
