Chapter 5 "a new home"

"I can't hear his heartbeat!", Lando cried out and Yuki grabbed him from the back to lay his head on George's chest. "It's still beating, it's rhythmical", Yuki said and took his ear away from his torso.

They laid there a bit of time, then they heard cracking in a bush. "Hello?", Max called out and stepped closer. The same men who shot George came out and raised their hands. "They shot him!", Lando screamed and turned to George again.

"Listen, we didn't want to shoot him! We can help him! Let's team up!", they said and came closer. "How do we know we can trust you?", Carlos said with George's head in his lap. "He's gonna die it's your decision", the leader said and shrugged his shoulders.

They treated George and he woke up after an hour. "What happened- agh!", he groaned and held his hand on his shoulder. "You got shot, remember?", Alex said and forced a smile. "Oh yeah, right.".

They dragged him to the car and laid him on the backseats of a car. "Thanks so much for your help! How can we thank you!", Lando said and hugged them. "Well what do you have to offer?", the leader said smiling. "We have snacks!", P said and went to her stepdad's car.

They took the snacks and left. Now there were only Yuki, Esteban, Alex, Lewis, Daniel, Max, Pierre, Charles, P and George was harmed. Alonso and Lance drove into the other direction. They didn't even know why there was a virus, why Zak was infected, where he got it from. Their phones already died and the snacks were only a few from then.

"We have to continue driving!", Lewis said and got in the car. "We only have a few canisters fuel left!", Daniel said and sat in the car. "It's gonna be enough, until we find a gas station.", Max said after he checked the tank.

They drove for a long time, until they found a gas station. "There's nothing left!", Lando said and ran out of the gas stations store. "Look, I have found some wood! We can fix it with the tools and the stuff, we got from the town!", Alex said and grabbed a hammer. "You got a hammer?!", Yuki said and smiled.

Max took the hammer and hammered the wood planks on the windows. "It's gonna be cold tonight, better get some more wood for a fire", he said and hammered another plank on the windows. "Our cars must have these first aid kits! There are usually some emergency blankets in.", Lewis said and took all of the first aid kits out of the cars. "I wonder how Lance and Fernando are doing", Pierre said and grabbed all the snacks, to store them in the empty shelves on the inside of the gas station.

"Prolly dead", Lando said shortly and took out the guns. "Guys!", Carlos and Charles shouted. "Look at this". There was a big storage room with gasoline, food and drinks. "If we put that stuff in our 'living room', we can park at least 4 or 5 cars in here", Max said and took a pin out of P's hands.

After three or four hours, they were finished with parking the cars inside and storing everything in there. The windows were blocked by the planks and nobody would get in. "So now we know, the zombies only come out with the beginning of sunset.", Yuki said and they looked confused at each other. He explained it to them and they understood.

When the sunset arrived, they formed a fire place out of stones and sticks, then turned it on with a lighter, Yuki found in his car. "So, what will we eat?", Max said and slapped his hands on his thighs, then got up to go to the shelves. "We have pizza, sweets and that was it. Choose wisely", he chuckled and took out the pizza, wich was not frozen anymore, but seemed still edible.

The pizza layer on a piece of metal over the fireplace and after some time, all pizzas where ready, so they ate, but left something for the breakfast. They didn't want to be too full, so they could still run and fight. "I'm tired, let's get some sleep", Estebam said and yawned. Like on a command, everyone yawned too and they laid down, then took the thin blanket. P was snuggled up in to Max and the rest slept alone in their blankets. "Ugh", Lando breathed out quietly, so no one would wake up. He stepped over the cold tiles to the part of the building, where the cars stood.

Of course the zombies were outside now and moaned and groaned, that's why he couldn't sleep. After a while, he climbed through a vent up to the roof and sat down, to watch the stars. The rooftop was so high that the creepy creatures couldn't make their way up. They were so dumb, they didn't even notice Lando.

Carlos woke up after a while and turned to the other side, where Lando used to lay and got up, then decided to search for him. After he searched everywhere, he noticed the vent and climbed through it, then got on the roof, where he sat. "Lando?", he whispered and climbed out. "Carlos?", he whispered back. "What are you doing here?" "I can't sleep", Lando said and stroke through his hair. "Are you okay?", Carlos asked and came closer to sit next to him. "Yes", he said and wiped a tear. Carlos took Lando in his arms and hugged him tight. He cried on his shoulders and then pulled off, to wipe his tears, but Carlos cupped his face with one hand and looked deeply in his eyes. "Lando, listen to me. We're gonna make it! You're okay, I'm okay, George's gonna be okay", he said in a sleepy voice and his Spanish accent made Lando smile. "There you go", Carlos whispered and stopped cupping his face to lay his hand on his shoulder.

"Now try to get some sleep.", Carlos said and took his hand. "I don't wanna, can you stay here with me?", Lando asked and Carlos nodded, then they sat down next to eachother and watched the stars in silence. Lando laid his head on Carlos's shoulder and Carlos said softly "it's gonna be okay. I promise.".

They saw the sunrise and went down, to keep the roof a secret, so it would be their place. The other slept really long too, so it wouldn't be suspicious, they were out for so long.

The grid stayed in there for four days, trained, fought and got ready. "We have to get something new to eat", Lewis said and they went out, then split up. They left Penelope at the house, but she snuck out and made her way in the forest.

After they went back, Max heard a scream.
