~yn's pov~
Walking away from the new house, I could see how uniform the while street was. Every house was an identical shade of white, with the same hedge and same brown door. Some may have called it quaint, but I thought it was just plain boring.
I looked around for a good place to chill. Surprisingly, I immediately spotted a good place. A fair distant away in the opposite direction to the city, was a hill partially obscured by low hanging willow trees but still glowing from the midday sun. It was perfect.
After a few detours through a few identical gardens, I had reached the base of the hill. Looking up, I could see a perfect hidy-hole midway up the slope. Determined to make a base, I rolled up my imaginary sleeves, slung my laptop bag over my back and set off up the hill.
It was a sharp incline, a good 45 degree angle. It forced me to crawl on hand and knee just to make any distance from my starting point. The grass, still damp from a shower earlier that day, was saturated and horribly muddy. But, I never was one to care about dirt, so I persevered as my hands slowly got coated more and more with every step.
I finally reached the spot after only 10 minutes or so of trudging through the mud. My hands were blackened from the drying mud and my shoes were drenched, but I didn't care because the view from that point was breathtaking. The town below looked like a mosaic of white and green with tiny little any people living their tiny little ant lives. The occasional glint of a swimming pool left sparkles scattered around the town and the reflection from passing cars added a glittery feel to the landscape.
Taking in the view, I laid back, plonking my bag next to me in the shade of the willow tree above me.
I sighed "this is more like it"
The heat from the sun beat down on my face and legs, comforting me as if it were tucking me into bed. I yawned and closed my eyes, thinking of all the cool things I was gonna do in this new town. Find a job, join a school club, make friends, maybe even have a summer love...~le dream world~
I opened my eyes slowly, adjusting to the dark surroundings. I was in a chair with a monitor on my lap glowing with static. As my vision brightened, more of the room became visible. By now I could make out a door.. No two doors, one on either side of me. Each one had a red, glowing button next to it, presumably to operate it.
Sitting in the chair, I tried to get up, only to find I couldn't move my body other than my head and arms. I started to panic from my lack of motion, but calmed myself, deducing this was just a dream... Just a bad dream...
I stayed in my seat a good 10 minutes, with nothing to do but observe the walls since my monitor was still busted and only showing a static screen. The walls were covered in drawings in crayon. "probably by some kids.." I thought to myself. The pictures showed small children playing with brightly coloured people. They seemed familiar somehow....
"EEK"
I squeaked as the monitor before me suddenly leapt into action, showing a glitchy image of three stationary people. The image was blurry and still static. I leaned closer, squinting to try and identify the figures in the picture. The more I looked, the more they seemed to be.. Vibrating? No.. It looked more like they were breathing....My heart stopped as the screen flashed, returning to the same scene, except slightly different. Now the figure closest to the camera appeared to be facing the camera... Me....
I dismissed it, claiming it to be a trick of the light.. Until it flashed again...
I threw the monitor onto the desk, eyes wide. I was breathing heavily and I could tell I was white as a sheet. For another half an hour, I did nothing but stare relentlessly at the monitor, now showing the image of an empty stage.....
Clangs and skuffles sounded left and right, but I didn't dare turn away from the monitor. The sound of a door sliding open made my breathing stop. I could feel someone... SomeTHING looming behind me... They took a step closer. My heart was pounding in my ears. I wanted to run so badly, but my legs wouldn't respond. I could sense them behind me. Less than a few centimetres away. I turned slowly, my head rotating in small jerks, to see....
~end of le dream world~
My eyes snapped open, only to see a person infront of it.
"ARG" I screamed.
"ARG" they screamed as well.
I moved my head forward to escape, colliding with the other person's forehead.
"ow.." I mumbled, leaning up on my elbow. I looked to see who was there.Writhing on the floor, gripping his forehead was a blonde boy. He looked like he was in pain and was obviously restraining alot of profanity. He got up, hand still on his head. He looked me in the eye, his blue eyes welling up with tears.
"ow.." he said.
"aw shoot dude. You alright?" I asked, trying to get a look at his head. I pried his hand off, revealing a large pinkish purple mark from the impact. "You're not bleeding." I said. "You'll survive."I got up and looked at him properly.
"the hell were you even doing?" he was only a little bit taller than me and looked around 19 or 20ish so probably only a few years older than me.
He sat up, legs crossed and said "I-I didn't know who you were.." he had a stutter and was avoiding eye contact as he spoke. "and you were... Were in my d-den..." he pointed meekly to the willow tree where, upon closer inspection, there was a small sign saying "crusaders tree base".I looked back at the boy, who was now blushing. I smiled and sat next to him. I knew his kind if person, there was a few in my home town.
"So this is your base?"
He nodded.
"How many crusaders are there?"
He lifted one finger.
I thought for a moment before asking another question.
"Can I be a crusader?" I asked, grinning. He looked at me, his eyes glittering. He looked ecstatic.
"R-really?!" he said through sniffles. I nodded.I extended my hand.
"I'm (yn)."
He smiled. "Jeremy" he replied, giving a weak handshake. He looked much nicer when he smiled. When he was crying, his glasses fogged up a bit.We stayed on the hill for a few hours, talking about our lives. I told him about my dad. I don't know why, but I just felt I could trust Jeremy. He told me about his family, his aunt who he was living with and his sister who had moved away. Apparently she hadn't made contact since he was 6.
"so what's the deal with that restaurant?" I asked, pointing at the odd roof in the landscape.
"you mean Freddy's?" Jeremy replied "I work there."
"Really?" I asked.
He nodded "only as a waiter, but I might be getting put as night guard soon. I have to watch the animatronics-"
"THERES ANIMATRONICS?!" I cried, leaping up, not even letting him finish. "WHAT KIND OF ANIMATRONICS?!"
He jumped at my sudden outburst. "th-they're um.. Like people but r-roboty.. I can take you there tomorrow i-if you want..." he mumbled the part.
"seriously?!" I hugged him, caught up in the moment. "Thanks Jeremy! You're the best!"He went bright red before practically collapsing in my arms.
"oops.." I said.. Maaaybe I had gotten a bit over excited..After that, we went home and I gave Jeremy my address so that he could call on me in the morning. I waved goodbye from my door and went to bed after a dinner of pot noodles.
'wow.. Real life robots..' thought to myself as I tucked myself into my makeshift bed of old bedding.
'i think I'm going to like this town'
