Do you need to think of everything about your OC, the backstory, the flaws and everything?
Well first, answer this question. What type of story is it? Drama or comedy? Or both?
If it's a drama, then yes. You have to make your OC realistic and 3 dimensional. Even if they're a comic relief character.
However, if it's a comedy, like in a comic strip then no. You don't have to. You just have to give them a few traits and pick a basic character archetype. Keep things nice and simple.
If it's a dramedy, then don't be fooled: All dramedies are comedies.
