The early morning light filtered through the arched windows of the Cloud Recesses, casting a warm, golden hue across the tranquil room. Ancient scrolls and books lined the shelves, their wisdom etched into the very fabric of this sacred place. The gentle scent of incense wafted through the air, adding an ethereal quality to the serene atmosphere.

Lan Wangji sat by the bookshelf, his calm demeanor illuminated by the dawn's gentle glow. The room was silent save for the occasional rustle of pages as he reviewed a tome, absorbing the knowledge contained within. His serene study was abruptly interrupted by the barely audible sound of footsteps, a disruption so subtle that only someone as attuned as he could notice.

"Wei Ying," Lan Wangji greeted without turning around, his voice as soft and steady as a whispering stream. He knew who it was; there was only one person whose presence could shift the very air around him.

"Lan Zhan," Wei Wuxian replied, his tone light and teasing. He took a few more steps until he was right in front of Lan Wangji, their gazes locking in the soft morning light. A playful smirk danced on his lips, but his eyes held a depth of emotion that belied his usual mischievous demeanor.

Lan Wangji's eyes softened just a fraction as he looked up at Wei Wuxian. There was a moment of silence, thick with unspoken words and shared history. "Wei Ying, you should not be here this early," Lan Wangji said, but there was no reprimand in his voice—only a quiet concern.

Wei Wuxian knelt in front of Lan Wangji, his hands finding their way to the other man's face, gently cupping it. "I missed you, Lan Zhan. Is that such a crime?" he murmured, his eyes twinkling with mischief yet carrying a depth of emotion that words could scarcely capture.

Lan Wangji's breath hitched slightly at the closeness. His hand, almost of its own volition, reached up to cover Wei Wuxian's, grounding himself in the touch. "Wei Ying..." he began, but the words faltered, caught in the tender moment.

Wei Wuxian leaned in closer, his forehead gently touching Lan Wangji's. "You worry too much, Lan Zhan. Can't we just... enjoy this moment?" His voice was a mere whisper, the warmth of his breath mingling with Lan Wangji's.

Lan Wangji closed his eyes briefly, allowing himself to savor the closeness. The walls of propriety and duty that he had always upheld so rigidly seemed to soften in Wei Wuxian's presence. "Just this moment," he agreed, his voice barely above a whisper.

Their breaths synchronized, hearts beating in a silent duet. The world outside ceased to exist as they lost themselves in each other. Wei Wuxian's fingers traced gentle patterns along Lan Wangji's jaw, eliciting a shiver.

"Lan Zhan, do you remember the first time we met?" Wei Wuxian asked suddenly, his eyes sparkling with the memory.

Lan Wangji's lips curved into the faintest of smiles. "You were a nuisance," he replied, his tone laced with affection.
