The warm smell of cooking floated through the room, meeting with the soft light from the sun peeking through the window to create the bliss atmosphere that the two girls awoke to. Ellie yawned and looked over at the girl, who was still cuddling into her side. The memories from the conversation they had the night before gravitated back to the front of her mind as she felt a pang of sympathy for the younger girl who had endured a great deal of pain in the last couple of years. You couldn't even tell, the poor girl was extremely good at hiding how she felt so it filled Ellie with a sense of accomplishment that the girl had opened up to her. Calliope sighed as, she too, awoke to the smell of food. She turned to see Ellie looking at her and became self conscious at the fact someone was watching her sleep. "Hi." She spoke, awkwardly. "Morning." Smiled Ellie as she sat up yawning. The older girl turned towards Henry who was stirring something over a stove, "Damn. That smells good." She complimented whilst bringing herself to a stand, Calliope close behind her. "Good morning." Joel nodded in the direction of the two girls. Ellie looked around the room, noticing the absence of one person. "Where's Sam?" She asked confused, hands on her hips as she stared down at Henry. "I let him sleep in for once." The man confirmed, looking at the girl then back to the food he was heating up. Calliope's stomach growled at the smell as she thought about how long it had been since she last had anything close to a meal. It was long time ago.  "Oh." Ellie spoke as she looked back at Callie. "Will if you want him to join us, you can go wake his ass up." He spoke with a chuckle to which Ellie returned. The younger girl hoped that Sam was feeling better than he did yesterday, he seemed so upset. Ellie looked around before muttering an "okay," and leaving the room to wake the boy up.

Callie watched the girl leave then turned around again, only to be met by Joel's gaze on her. She noticed a look she hadn't seen before in the man, possibly pity? She wasn't sure. She also wasn't sure why he was directing it towards her since she had barely spoke two words this morning, in fact, she had only spoken one. "Sam!" Ellie yelled out, fear striking from her tone. "What the hell?" Exclaimed Joel as he shifted his gaze the door. The three turned and watched as Ellie was shoved backwards through the door, Sam on top of her, snarling and trying to bite her. Callie froze, helplessly as she watched her friend struggle in the same situation she had been in a few years prior. "Shit, he's turnin'!" Joel yelled out, rushing towards his bag to grab his gun as Calliope's head finally cleared. She found herself subconsciously running to Ellie, about to shove the boy off until she heard a shot that landed by her feet, knocking her backwards. Henry stood not far from them, with his gun pointed towards the girl. "That's my fucking brother." The man called out, upset, still pointing the gun at the young girl who only stared towards Ellie fighting for her life. Joel pushed himself in front of of Callie, protecting her from the gaze of the barrel. "Sam!" Ellie screamed in fear, trying with everything she had to get the boy off, not wanting to hurt him. "Screw it!" Joel shouted as he made his way to pick up his gun once more until another shot rang out, causing his to whip his head around in concern. Sam went limp and Ellie shoved the body off of her, sitting up and pushing herself away from the gurgling boy. "Oh, shit." She heaved out, trying to catch a breath.

"Ellie? Ellie, are you alright?" The old man asked, kneeling down and placing a comforting hand on the girl's shoulder. "Uh huh," she nodded, still panting as she looked towards the body, "oh my god." She spoke as Callie crouched next to her on the other side, looking over her to see if she was hurt. "Sam?" came a voice from behind the three. They looked up to see a teary Henry, staring at the boy he had just shot, "oh no." whispered Calliope, realising what the man could find himself doing in the moment. She understood his pain and guilt, she had been there. She knew that it made you feel like a monster, like you didn't deserve a place in the world if you took someone else's. Especially someone so close to your heart. Joel seemed to understand too as he got up and slowly approached the younger man. "Henry." He softly spoke, not wanting to alarm the man. "Girls, stay there." He ordered, not needing them to be a part of this. "Henry." He spoke again, slightly louder this time, wanting to gain the attention of the solemn figure in front of him. "Henry, what have you done?" The younger man muttered to his self, torn apart by his own actions, forcing himself to stare at the consequences as he sobbed. "I'm going to get that gun from you, okay?" Joel reasoned, stepping further and further forwards, leaving the girls in anxious states as they watched cautiously willing no more harm to come to anyone in the room.
