Your heart was pounding in your chest, you felt like it was in your ears, and you wanted to tell him, you knew you trusted him, but this was too big, this was too weird.

"What is it?" He asked when you took too long to say something, and you winced.

"I have to go." You mumbled, rushing to get up, and he frowned, furrowing his eyebrows.

"Yeah, um," He cleared his throat, following suit, and remembering his own responsibilities, "I've got my Stark internship anyways."

"Text me later?" You offered weakly, giving him an apologetic smile, and he nodded with a soft one, understanding some things were harder to talk about.

That just made it even more heart wrenching to keep something like this from him because he was always patient with you, always willing and understanding about everything. That's probably why after only knowing him for two weeks he made you feel like you could tell him your darkest secrets, but what if it changed everything? He'd never hurt you, but what if it was always different after that or he looked at you with a hint of judgement? Maybe it was just all too soon, and you needed to figure some of this out on your own first.

"I had a lot of fun," He was saying as he gathered his stuff and you smiled, his back to you as he packed up, "And I think you're gonna crush it as Audrey."

"I've got the best Seymour there is by my side, so I think I have a good shot."

He looked down, smiling widely, but trying to control it before he turned to face you again. He even put his hand to his mouth to try to press down on his cheeks, but you caught a bit of that and were gushing, so you both had similar problems.

By the time he did turn around, completely packed up, you were only smiling slightly, but little did you know, your eyes told him so much. His smile grew when he met yours with his own and he blurted,

"Can I kiss you?" Your eyes widened in surprise, really not expecting that, and he started fumbling over his words again, "I meant um, k-kiss you goodbye? Yeah, just l-like on the cheek or something," He was rushing his words out, afraid he blew it, and then offered pathetically, "A hug? Or – or not, I'm just gonna-"

You cut him off when you leaned forward for the quickest kiss to his lips, pulling back with a blush, and not being able to meet his eyes.

You were going to ask something when he didn't say anything, but then he dropped his bag before reaching over to cup your face, and the words died on your tongue. His smile was so soft, his eyes so gentle, and you were melting on the spot. He leaned in further, his cheeks dusted pink, and placed a lingering kiss on your lips, the spark between the two of you more noticeable when it last longer than two seconds.

"What was I saying?" He whispered with a darker blush, his eyes half closed as if he was waiting to kiss you again, and he barely moved away.

"Can't remember."

He chuckled, kissing you softly again and you smiled into it, feeling like the butterflies were just soaring through your veins now, touching every inch.

The two of you stayed close to each other after that, his fingers playing with yours a bit until he linked them with a content sigh, holding your hand. You couldn't stop smiling, relieved he wasn't witnessing your blush so much right now when you bowed your head to look at your entwined hands because you felt like you would let out an embarrassing noise you felt so happy.

"Do you think uh," He tensed a bit, and you looked up when he did, glancing over his face patiently, but it seemed to just make him more nervous when he noticed you watching him, "Can I um, call you my girlfriend?"

Your smile somehow grew, and his worry began to fade before he let out a deep breath when you nodded, not really trusting your own voice, and then leaned up to kiss him again. He still seemed nervous, but he was smiling like a goof when you pulled away, hovering over his lips as he looked back and forth between your eyes and then he pushed some hair out of your face as his eyes stayed locked on yours.

"Ned knew, didn't he?" You smirked in realization, lightening the mood, and he grew flustered before cringing.

"Yeah."

"And MJ?" You cocked an eyebrow with a smile.

"She guessed," He huffed, looking away, and you laughed, making him smile, "But I got to at least tell Ned and May...and Mr. Stark."

"You told your aunt?"

"First day I met you," He winced, realizing what he said, "I mean, maybe not the first day."

Your hand was on his collarbone, lightly ghosting over his skin in random shapes as you held his with your other and his hand was fumbling to find the right place. He had it on your waist for only a second before he pulled away and decided to just keep his arm down at his side.

"You even told your boss at your internship?"

His smile dropped at the last part, and he reluctantly nodded, looking away. You frowned when he seemed to be struggling with something and backed away to give him some room.

"Hey, you okay?" You asked after giving him some space and he seemed to be having an internal argument, "Is it your internship? Are you gonna be late?"

"It's uh-" He shook his head, glancing down with a frown etched into his features.

Doubts started to creep into your mind, even though he just said he told everyone how he felt about you, but it didn't matter. You felt like he was too good for you, too sweet, too attractive, and just too normal to be honest.

Maybe he was changing his mind on the spot or maybe he really –

"Y/n," He looked at you again and you raised your eyebrows when you heard the heaviness behind his tone before he added, "Y/n, I'm sorry, I really do need to get going."

His whole body was physically cringing at itself because he should've just told you the truth.

"Okay," You nodded with a tight smile, letting his hand go, and he looked like he relaxed more now that you guys weren't touching, "Maybe this was a bad idea anyway."

You didn't mean to mumble that, having him catch it, but he did and that made his whole face fall before he shook his head.

"No, no, it's not that, I promise."

You shrugged, feeling like a total idiot, and then just waved him to go because you really didn't want to talk about this right now when he had one foot out the door.

"Hey, it's fine, I'll see you later, okay?"

"And I'll text you," He nodded, not letting himself believe that the one thing he's been hoping for finally happened only for it to slip from his fingers in the same hour, "As soon as I get there."

"Sure, yeah." You forced a tight smile and his eyes fluttered shut in his own frustration, but then he left with a huff.

You took your hand out from behind your back and raised it in front of you, palm up, but it wasn't empty.

It held a ball of fire that reflected in your eyes as you stared at the door he just vanished behind.
