A few weeks passed in a blur of planning, building, scavenging, and love-making. The cabin had become a cozy, secure haven, and Stevie's belly had started to show just a little bit. Life felt almost normal, a rare and precious thing in their world.
One afternoon, while Negan was reinforcing the fence and Stevie was tending to the garden, they heard the sound of approaching footsteps. Stevie looked up and smiled as she saw Daryl, Judith, Carol, and Aaron walking towards them. Daryl was carrying a bundle of freshly caught rabbits.
"Hey, you two," Daryl called out, his usual gruff tone softened by a rare smile. "Brought some supplies and dinner."
Stevie beamed and ran over to hug Judith. "Hey, Jude! It's so good to see you."
Judith hugged her back tightly. "I missed you, Stevie. And I missed you too, Negan."
Negan walked over, ruffling Judith's hair. "Missed you too, kid. Good to see you, Daryl, Carol, Aaron."
Carol handed Stevie a basket filled with various supplies. "We brought some extra food, medical supplies, a radio to get into contact with us, and a few other things you might need."
"Thank you," Stevie said, her voice thick with emotion. "This means so much to us."
Aaron set down another bag of supplies and nodded towards Stevie's growing belly. "Looks like things are coming along well here."
Stevie laughed softly. "Yeah, we're getting there. Slowly but surely."
As they gathered around the fire pit, Daryl prepared the rabbits he had caught, and soon the smell of roasting meat filled the air. They all sat down to enjoy the meal together, the atmosphere warm and familial.
After a while, Daryl cleared his throat, looking a bit uncomfortable. "Uh, Stevie, I gotta apologise. Judith couldn't keep her mouth shut about the pregnancy. So, now everyone knows." He scratched the back of his neck.
Stevie chuckled, glancing at Judith, who looked sheepish. "It's okay, Daryl. I kind of figured it would get out eventually."
Negan grinned, squeezing Stevie's hand. "We're not exactly the best at keeping secrets, are we?"
Judith piped up, "Rosita's planning on coming by soon to see you. She's really excited."
Carol nodded. "And we have some news too. We've been in contact with a community called the Commonwealth. It's a large, well-established place with resources and security. Everyone's thinking of heading there."
Aaron added, "Daryl and Rosita were thinking about joining their guard. It seems like a good place to build a future."
Stevie looked at Negan, then back at the group. "That sounds... amazing. We've been doing well here, but the idea of a larger community, more security... it's something to think about."
Negan nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah, it is. We'll need to figure out what's best for us and the baby."
Daryl reached over and patted Negan on the back. "Whatever you decide, we're here for you. We're all in this together."
They spent the rest of the evening talking, laughing, and enjoying the meal. As the stars began to twinkle in the sky, Stevie felt a deep sense of contentment and hope. Surrounded by family and friends, with a new life on the way and the promise of a brighter future, she knew they could face whatever came next.
Later, as they said their goodbyes, Stevie hugged Judith tightly. "Take care, kiddo. And tell Rosita I can't wait to see her."
"I will," Judith promised, hugging her back. "See you soon, Stevie."
Negan shook hands with Daryl, Carol, and Aaron. "Thanks for everything. We'll be in touch."
As they watched the others disappear into the trees, Stevie leaned against Negan, her hand resting on her belly. "It's going to be okay, isn't it?"
Negan kissed the top of her head. "Yeah, it is. We've got a lot to figure out, but we're not alone. Baby's already got a loyal family."
With their hearts full and their spirits high, they headed back into the cabin, ready to face whatever the future held together.
The next morning, the cabin was filled with the soft sounds of birds chirping and the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze. Negan woke up to find Stevie already out of bed, but the sound of retching from the bathroom made his heart sink.
He quickly got up and went to the bathroom door, knocking gently. "Stevie? You okay in there, darlin'?"
Stevie's weak voice came from the other side. "Just... morning sickness. I'll be okay."
Negan opened the door to find her kneeling by the toilet, looking pale and exhausted. He crouched down beside her, rubbing her back soothingly. "Morning sickness, huh? Sounds like the little one is giving you a hard time."
Stevie managed a small smile. "Yeah, it's been pretty rough today."
Negan brushed a strand of hair out of her face. "You're a tough cookie, Stevie. But this is starting to worry me."
She leaned into his touch, taking comfort from his presence. "I know. But I don't want to leave our home yet. We've worked so hard to make it safe."
Negan sighed, his expression a mix of concern and love. "I get it. But your health and the baby's health come first. We'll figure something out."
Stevie nodded, taking a deep breath. "I just... I don't want to give up on this place yet."
Negan helped her to her feet, wrapping an arm around her waist for support. "We're not givin' up on anything, okay? Just taking care of you and our kid. We can stay a bit longer, see how things go. But if it gets worse, we're heading to Alexandria or the Commonwealth. Deal?"
Stevie leaned her head on his shoulder. "Deal."
Negan guided her back to the bed, making sure she was comfortable. "You need anything? Water, crackers? Maybe a barf bag?"
Stevie laughed weakly, appreciating his attempt to lighten the mood. "Water would be nice. And maybe some of those crackers Carol brought."
Negan nodded, getting up to fetch the items. "You got it, darlin'. And don't worry, I'm not leaving your side."
As he returned with the water and crackers, Stevie couldn't help but smile at his attentiveness. "You're really good at this whole 'taking care of me' thing."
Negan smirked, handing her the water. "Yeah, well, don't go spreading that around. I've got a reputation to maintain."
Stevie took a sip of the water, feeling a bit better already. "Your secret's safe with me."
Negan sat down beside her, holding her hand. "You're gonna be okay, Stevie. We're gonna get through this. And our kid's gonna have one badass mom."
Stevie squeezed his hand, feeling the warmth of his love and support. "And a pretty badass dad too."
Negan chuckled, his eyes twinkling with affection. "Damn right."
As they sat together, sharing a moment of quiet strength and love, Stevie knew that whatever the future held, they would face it together. And with Negan by her side, she felt ready for anything.
