"Eviee! Talk to me

"Eviee! Talk to me...why are you ignoring me?" Ekta Di's voice cut through the silence in my room, a silence I had maintained ever since returning from the Chauhan mansion.

Why wouldn't I ignore her? She's the one who told me that Samarth was asking for my hand in marriage.

"Oh god! I'm sorry....I misinterpreted Mumma and Papa's conversation," she repeated, her voice laced with desperation.

"Please, na! Sarthak and Agya will be here to pick us up...please na...forgive your didi"

So this was her concern?

"Are you worried Jiju will find out about my feelings for Samarth and the fact that you lied about him wanting to marry me?" I yelled, frustration boiling over.

I grabbed a pillow from my bed and hurled it at her. How could she be so careless?

She's the worst sister ever.

How many sisters do you have? My brain retorted, sarcastic and unhelpful.

"Eviee, listen...It was a misunderstanding...I didn't know we would go to the Chauhan mansion to talk about your wedding with Agastya Kapoor. More so, that he would be your teacher!"

"Just shut up, Di! I don't want to hear another word." I was fed up.

She wasn't saying it directly, but I knew her wedding depended on this relationship too.

The Kapoors and the Chauhans are very, very close—almost like family.

After my engagement with Sir, I found out that Sarthak Jiju and Agastya Sir had grown up like brothers.

Saying no to this wedding would mean losing my rights to my property, the collapse of our business, and bitterness in Di and Jiju's relationship.

Tears filled my eyes as the weight of the situation pressed down on me.

I had planned a whole future with Samarth, and now I had to give that up entirely.

On top of that, my soon-to-be husband was my chemistry teacher, someone I disliked intensely.

Why, God? What did I do wrong?

As my tears began to flow uncontrollably, Ekta di rushed to my side and hugged me tightly.

I clung to her, burying my face in the crook of her neck, and cried.

"Di?... I'm just 22, and in a few months I'll be married to Agastya sir..." The disappointment in my voice made Ekta di cry as well.

Her tears fell on me as she hugged me tightly.

"Is it? And to marry Samarth, you weren't 22 years?" she questioned, her tone laced with sarcasm.

"Oh, shut up, di... you don't have the right to tease me. It's you who gave me false hopes..." I hugged her even tighter.

"I did dream of a future with Samarth, but... if this was supposed to be a dream, the least I expected was to go on trips, explore the world, meet new people, find a man to fall in love with, and then get married...."
