 Cadence's POV:

After the encounter with Mattheo, I walked towards my first class, which was Herbology. But as I walked, I couldn't get our conversation out of my head. It was like it replayed every time it ended.

But finally, I made it to Herbology, which the Ravenclaw's had with the Hufflepuffs. I didn't mind having class with them, though, since most of them were pretty chill and sweet. Unless you get on their bad side, of course, but I'd never do that.

I then noticed Angela and Logan standing next to each other, but they didn't notice me. Not long after, Professor Sprout came into the greenhouse.

She then set her stuff at the front of the table, and began speaking. "Today, we'll be planting Mandrakes, again." she announced, and she gestured to the pots in front of us. "And today, you'll be partnering up."

Everyone grinned at their friends, already picking their partners.

"Oh no, I'll be picking your partners." Professor Sprout said sternly. Everyone's grin faded and lots of people groaned.

Of course, Logan and Angela got paired up. And then Professor Sprout paired me up with someone named Ares.

I have noticed him before, and he's a Hufflepuff. He has thick curly hair٫ and dark blue eyes.

"Hey." he said awkwardly.

"Hi."

"You're Cadence right?"

I nodded.

"I'm Ares," he sighed. "Although you probably already know that from Professor Sprout."

I nodded.

He tilted his head. "Are you gonna say anything or is this just gonna be awkward silence?"

I sighed. "Yeah, I just have no clue about what to say."

"I know the feeling."

I suddenly started giggling.

He frowned. "What's so funny?"

I shook my head. "Nothing."

"Oh really?"

"It's just that, thinking of professors, you look kinda like McGonagall. In a young, masculine way."

He paled.

"You okay?"

"Uh huh."

"Did I say anything wrong?"

"No, actually I'm just surprised that you said I was masculine. Everybody says I'm girly."

I shrugged. "You don't seem super girly."

His eyebrows raised. "Okay-"

Professor Sprout plopped a huge pot filled to the brim with dirt and a smaller pot with leaves and stems sticking out of it in front of us.

"You know what to do," she said, handing Ares pink earmuffs and me neon red ones.

"Here," I said , trading earmuffs with him.

"Thanks."

"Welp," I said. "Tell me about yourself. If you want to."

His eyebrows raised. "Wait what?"

"Tell me about yourself."

"Um, I-I don't know exactly how I would put it. Life I guess. Held up to high standards, by those close to me. Um, if you could even say that they're 'close'. I-I dunno."

"What are you into?"

"I mean, I like studying. I'll read almost anything. I usually hang out by the common room cuz I certainly do not need to deal with my peers crap-" he cringed. "I shouldn't have mentioned it, sorry."

I frowned. "It's fine." I giggled.

"What?"

"It's kinda funny, ignore this if you find it offensive, but it's sorta funny to me that you're describing this as nobody likes you when you seem like a nice guy."

"Huh." he looked at me. "Welp tell me about yourself?"

"I mean," I smiled. "There's not exactly much to say except what I'm saying if that makes any sense."

He shrugged. "I guess it kinda does."

I had no desire to dump what had happened on him, especially since it sounded like he was already going through things.

"What are you into?" Ares asked.

"Uh.. I like reading." I thought about it for a moment before I continued. "I'm a fan of chess."

Ares smiled. "Cool,"

"Earmuffs on!" Professor Sprout shouted, and everybody scrambled to cover their ears. And you remember the rest! She mouthed, and everybody pulled up their mandrakes.

As me and Ares pulled up our Mandrakes, it started screaming. And then I heard someone hit the floor.

I then potted the Mandrake and covered it back up with dirt, silencing it.

Ares frowned.

What? I mouthed.

Mandrakes are jerks. He mouthed back.

I snorted.

Soon class wrapped up and it seemed to end as quickly as it began.
