𝐊𝐈𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐀 𝐓𝐔𝐆𝐆𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐀𝐆 𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑 her shoulder as she walked down the busy street to her destination. Different people walked past her as she continued to look forward, not wanting to draw any attention to herself than she already has.
After being at the house with everyone else, she realized it was about to get dark soon, and she wanted to leave to go check on her sisters before heading out for the night. What Samaria said really spoke to her, and she wanted to try harder to get closer to her younger siblings. No matter how bad her mother didn't want her around.
Her body shivered at the thought of how many clients she had to see today — wishing things would be different and she could just work a regular job to help out. Even though she tried, she didn't have any form of license or proof of a social security. So her hopes were always at a dead end.
Continuing walking, she turned down her neighborhood street which was called Fairfield Drive. The familiar neighbors standing outside as they waved at her; she smiles, exchanging the wave as she kept walking to her old apartment complex.
Her heart pounded as she stepped closer to the rundown building. The drug addicts were outside leaning up against the brick wall as they tried to contain their high. She ignores them and walks inside — the rusty wooden door opening with a loud creek as she walked up the stairs to the fifth floor where her mother's home was.
Speaking to the residents inside who walked past her, she finally made it to the familiar door number, 515, with a confused face, she noticed a yellow piece of paper sticking out of the door. Pulling it out, she unfolds the paper to reveal the big red letters she thought she'd never had to see soon.
THIRTY DAY NOTICE OF EVICTION...
The paper's date was June 4th, which was roughly four days ago. Puzzled, she instantly knocks on the door, mentally praying that someone would answer the door to let her know her family was still there.
She hears a few small feet run behind the door, so she quickly puts the paper in her pocket as her heart skips a beat when she thought about her younger siblings. There were a few whispers before the oldest child behind the door spoke loud enough for her to hear.
"Who is it?"
"I—." Kimora tries to fight the tears as she hears the familiar voice that she'd been longing to hear. "It's Kimora."
The locks to the door rapidly started to unlock. Before Kimora could process, two small children tackled her into a hug— making her stumble back a little as the tears trickled in her eyes. "Hey you two."
"We missed you so much." The oldest of the two said as her face was stuffed into Kimora's stomach. The older woman couldn't help but slightly laugh, stating that she missed them as well.
"Let's go inside, okay?" She says as she pulls them away. They both nod eagerly as they practically ran inside, Kimora following them as her face turned into shock as she seen how their living conditions were.
The blinds were bent badly, as Kimora was able to see the other building across the street. There was trash, clothes and toys everywhere as she carefully stepped over everything as they made their way into the living room — the room being in the same condition.
"Where's mom?" Kimora questioned as the two girls sat down on the couch. She decided to as well, not liking down it sunk down immediately as she sat. Looking over at her sisters for a response, they only shrugged their shoulders.
"We don't know. She's been gone for a couple of days."
Kimora's heart damn near broke when she heard the news. That meant her sisters had been fending for themselves for god knows how long — and seeing the conditions of the home, she knew they'd been struggling.
"You guys hungry? We can go get something before mom comes back." She says as she watched the girls face lighten up at the mention of food. Her older sister tugs on her younger sister's shirt before telling her to come and change so they can leave. With enthusiasm, the two young girls rush to their room to find whatever clean clothes they have.
While Kimora waited, she got up to fully check the place out; going to the kitchen only to find hardly any food in the fridge or the pantry and even if she did — the food was weeks even months old. Her emotions were all over the place as she thought about how her sisters were living.
If she could take them with her, she would.
Checking the rest of the place out, even her mom's room — which she didn't stay in long after she seen the pill bottles and other empty drug bottles lying around. She knew how addicts get about their personal space... so she didn't touch anything to prevent an outburst that she wouldn't even be here to see.
However, she does go inside to her mother's dresser than contained all of their personal information. Digging through it, she finds her social security card that she'd been needing. She didn't know how she was going to get a license, but that was another bridge she'd cross another day.
Placing the important card in her bag, along with any other important documents she needed, she quickly leaves the room, looking back to make sure everything was still in the same place as she closed the door.
Hearing the small patter of her sisters' feet, she turns around to see her younger sisters fully dressed. She sadly smiles at them when she notices how dusty their clothes were. She knew she had to help them out some type of way, even if it meant helping out with rent — since she clearly knew where the money was going.
"You two ready?" They both nod as Kimora motioned them to head to the front door, the two young girls talking about what they could possibly eat after not eating for a couple of days.
