Looking at her smile, Manav could tell it wasn't the polite, somewhat distant one she had been giving since they met. This smile was genuine, filled with warmth and joy.
He couldn't help but wonder who was on the other end of the call, whose name alone could bring such a light to her face. After a good 15 minutes, she returned to the table, and Manav felt a pang of restlessness. It's been five years, he thought. Is there someone else in her life now?
As Nitya settled back into her seat, Parth noticed the change in her demeanor. "Everything okay?" he asked, a teasing glint in his eye.
Nitya nodded, still smiling. "Yes, everything's fine. Just a call from an old friend."
Manav tried to mask his curiosity and the slight unease he felt. "Must be someone special to make you smile like that," he said lightly.
Nitya glanced at him, her smile softening. "Yes, someone very special." noticing the subtle tension in his expression. she added "Just a dear friend who always knows how to make me laugh."
Parth, sensing the need to lighten the mood, jumped in. "Well, now that Nitya's in a good mood, let's order dessert! I hear the chocolate lava cake here is to die for."
Manav nodded, grateful for the distraction, though his mind kept drifting back to Nitya's smile.
As they shared dessert and stories from the past, he couldn't shake the feeling of restlessness. The past five years had changed them both, and he wondered how much more he didn't know about the woman sitting across from him.
Nitya's POV:
I don't know why I clarified 'friend.' I'm not committed to him or anything.
